Only 47.51% of registered beneficiaries received COVID vaccine in Cachar till 27 January

Jan. 28: Along with the rest of the country, COVID-19 vaccination began in Assam also on 16 January, 2021 at 65 centres. COVISHIELD vaccine is administered at 59 centres and COVAXIN at 6 centres across the state.  COVID warriors will get the vaccine in the first phase. So at present, 1.9 lakh health workers from doctors to support staff – of both private & public health institutes were supposed to be vaccinated at the 1st stage. Around 8651 nurses and 1300 doctors have been trained for giving the doses.

However, the scenario of receiving the vaccine by the health workers in Cachar district is not that encouraging. As per data made available by the district health department, from 16 January to 27 January the COVID-19 vaccine was administered to health workers in six centres. A total of 1,206 beneficiaries were supposed to be vaccinated in Cachar, out of which, only 773 have received it till now, which amounts to 47.51 percent. Out of the 1,206 total registered beneficiaries, 369 were male and 837 female. However, till now, only 216 male and 357 female have received the vaccine.

At SM Dev Civil Hospital (SMDCH), Silchar, a total of 368 beneficiaries were registered for taking the 1st shot, out of which, till 27 January, only 163 of them have received the vaccine, which amounts to 44.29 percent. Out of the 368 total registered beneficiaries, 99 were male and 269 female. However, till now, only 59 male and 104 female have received the vaccine.

At Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), 444 beneficiaries got registered for the vaccine. But till 27 January, only 160 of them have availed the shots, which amounts to 36.04 percent. Out of the 444 total registered beneficiaries, 113 were male and 331 female. However, till now, only 54 male and 106 female have received the vaccine.

At Green Heals Hospital, Silchar, 99 health workers were supposed to receive the vaccine, but till now only 50 of them have received it, which amount to 50.51 percent. Out of the 99 total registered beneficiaries, 50 were male and 49 female. However, till now, only 28 male and 22 female have received the vaccine.

At Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC), a somewhat positive scenario could be discerned in comparison to other centres in Cachar district. 165 beneficiaries got registered for the vaccine at CCHRC, out of which, 125 of them have received the shots till now. Out of the 165 total registered beneficiaries, 67 were male and 98 female. However, till now, only 53 male and 72 female have received the vaccine. It needs mention here that renowned oncologist, Padmashree Dr. Ravi Kannan, Director of CCHRC received the COVID-19 Vaccine on last Monday.

At Sonai, the target was to vaccinate 70 health workers, out of which, 40 of them received the COVID-19 vaccine till 27 January, which amounts to 57.14 percent. Out of the 70 total registered beneficiaries, 15 were male and 55 female. However, till now, only 08 male and 32 female have received the vaccine in Sonai.

At Sonabarighat, 60 health workers were supposed to receive the vaccine, but till now only 35 of them have received it, which amount to 58.33 percent. Out of the 60 total registered beneficiaries, 25 were male and 35 female. However, till now, only 14 male and 21 female have received the vaccine.

Cachar (Silchar) was also recently in the national news, however, for negative reasons. A total of 1000 doses of Covishield vaccine have got spoiled at a hospital in Cachar district as the covid shots were stored in sub-zero temperatures. The incident that happened at Silchar Medical College and Hospital was reported to the health department on January 16, and came to light on 18 January. The district immunization officer informed that the vaccine which were to be stored at 2 to 8 degrees were partially frozen at -5 to -6 degrees.
