Only 10 persons allowed in marriage & funerals; wedding reception prohibited
May 12: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has come up with new guidelines on Wednesday to contain the further spread of coronavirus in the state. The new SOPs were released by Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta during a press meet on Wednesday morning. These new set of guidelines will come into effect from May 13 until further orders.
“Marriages and religious functions wilI be only private affairs and be allowed with presence of maximum of 10 (ten) persons,” stated the new SOP. It further specified that “No reception parties will be allowed post or pre marriage.”
Also, gathering of more than 10 persons shall not be allowed for funeral and last rites.
Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta sent out a strong warning to the violators saying that stern action would be initiated against violators. “Anyone violating the SOPs will be dealt with strong hands,” he said.
