Online education seems to be the only way out for the current semester, says VC of Assam Univ

28 এপ্রিলঃ চলতি সেমিস্টারে অনলাইন পাঠই ছা্ত্রছা্ত্রীদের ভরসা। অলনাইনে যা পড়ানো হচ্ছে, মূলত এর ওপরই পরীক্ষা হবে। খোলামেলা এ কথা জানিয়ে দিয়েছেন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক দিলীপচন্দ্র নাথ। তাঁর আশা, 1 জুন থেকে হয়তো বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় খোলা সম্ভব হবে। আলোচনা চলছে দেশ জুড়েই সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে নতুন শিক্ষাবর্ষ শুরু হবে। সে ক্ষেত্রে তিনমাসের মধ্যে পরীক্ষা গ্রহণ, খাতা দেখা, ফল প্রকাশ ও নতুন ভর্তিপ্রক্রিয়া সম্পন্ন করতে হবে। তাই তিনি ছাত্রছাত্রীদের লকডাউনের সময়টাকে কাজে লাগাতে পরামর্শ দেন । তিনি বলেন, 1 জুন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ক্লাশ শুরু হলে পরীক্ষা শুরু করতে হবে 15 দিনের মধ্যে।

উপাচার্য মঙ্গলবার এবিভিপি ফেসবুক লাইভ-এ এডুকেশনাল চ্যালেঞ্জেস অ্যান্ড অপরচুুনিটিস শীর্ষক বক্তৃতা করেন। তিনি প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদির ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করেন৷ বলেন, দেশ এমন একজন সুযোগ্য নেতা পেয়েছিল বলেই ভারতে করোনা নিয়ন্ত্রণে রয়েছে৷ নইলে আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা আড়াইলক্ষ ছাড়িয়ে যেত৷

তিনি বলেন, নতুন শিক্ষানীতি তৈরি করা হয়েছে৷ এখনও তা কার্যকর হয়নি৷ এখন করোনা ত্রাসে ওই শিক্ষানীতিতেও কিছু পরিবর্তন আনতে হবে৷ কারণ এখন অনলাইনেই বেশি জোর দিতে হবে৷ এমনকী, সবকিছু স্বাভাবিক হয়ে গেলেও প্রাথমিক পাঠটা অনলাইনেই হবে৷ শিক্ষকমশায়কে ক্লাশে শুধু ওই পাঠের প্রশ্ন জিজ্ঞাসা বা মত বিনিময় করা যাবে৷ তবে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের আশ্বস্ত করে উপাচার্য বলেন, যে টুকু পড়ানো হবে, এর ওপরই প্রশ্ন থাকবে৷

ফলে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পরীক্ষাগ্রহণ, ক্লাশ শুরু ইত্যাদি নিয়ে ঝামেলা হবে না বলেই মনে করছেন তিনি৷ তবে উপাচার্যের চিন্তা, কলেজের ছাত্রদের পরীক্ষা নিয়ে৷ বলেন, কলেজ অধ্যক্ষদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে পরিস্থিতি বুঝে সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে হবে৷

April 28: Online education appears to be the only way out for the ongoing semester. Examination will be conducted on the basis of curriculum taught online. This was the candid expression of Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of Assam University. He anticipated that the University may start functioning from 1 June. Countrywide discussion is going on to defer the academic session by 2 months and start it from September. In that case, within a span of 3 months, many tasks, like taking examination, evaluation of answer scripts, publication of result needs to be accomplished. As such, he advised the students to make the optimum use of the lockdown phase. He further said that, if the University reopens on 1 June, then examinations will be conducted within 15 days from then.

The Vice Chancellor appeared in a Facebook live session conducted by ABVP and spoke on ‘Education: Challenges and Opportunities.” He heaped lavish praise upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that in his absence, the number of coronavirus cases in India would have crossed 2.5 lakh.

Dwelling on the New Education Policy, the Vice Chancellor said that though much progress was made on its preparation, but this has not yet been implemented. He opined that in the backdrop of the outbreak of coronavirus, certain changes need to be included in the policy. At present, the stress would be more on online mode of education. Even if the situation becomes normal, then also the basic lessons needs to be imparted in the virtual mode. The teachers during the class would just have to respond to any queries made by the students on what has already been imparted online. The VC, however, assured the students that questions will be set on what is actually taught and not merely on the entire syllabus.

The Vice Chancellor though seemed to be more confident of managing the post graduate teaching-learning procedure, but was apprehensive when it came to undergraduate level of study. He seemed to be worried regarding conduct of examination for the college students. He said, “As regards TDC students, we will discuss the issue with the College Principals before arriving at any conclusion regarding the conduct of examination.”
