One Day Workshop on SWAYAM Courses at Assam University

way2barak, May 31: The SWAYAM NPTEL Local Chapter of Assam University Silchar, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized a One Day Workshop on SWAYAM Courses on 30th May 2025 at Bipin Chandra Pal Milanayatan, Assam University Campus.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness and enhance faculty and student engagement with SWAYAM—India’s national online education platform initiated by the Ministry of Education. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, IQAC Coordinators and Principals of affiliated colleges under Assam University. A total 90+ participants joined the workshop today.
The inaugural session was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor (Chief Patron), Prof. Piyush Pandey, Director IQAC (Co-Patron), Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharjee, Director CDC (General Chair), Prof. Sudipta Roy, Director RDC (Programme Chair), Prof. Prodipto Das, Nodal Officer & SPOC, SWAYAM NPTEL Local Chapter, Dr. Angana Sengupta, Sr. Project Manager, NPTEL IIT Kanpur (Resource Person), Mr. Ajay Kumar Kanaujia, Deputy Project Manager (Accounts), NPTEL IIT Kanpur.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by an inaugural song performed by students of the Performing Arts Department, coordinated by Dr. Jagannath Barman. The felicitation of guests was conducted by Mr. Shuvrajyoti Dey.
The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharjee, while keynote addresses were presented by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Prof. Prodipto Das, Dr. Angana Sengupta, Prof. Piyush Pandey and Prof. Sudipta Roy.
In the VCs address Prof Rajive Mohan Pant explain the need of SWAYAM for the career and other prospects of the SWAYAM course. He added that the course will be very much beneficial to the students. The infrastructure for SWAYAM course development is done at Mass Comm Department which is known as e-learning studio. He appealed the teachers to use the facilities. He also mentioned that if we upgrade the computing facilities in the university we may conduct SWAYAM examinations in the University itself.
At the beginning in the welcome address the Director CDC Mr Bhattacharjee appeals to all colleges to adopt SWAYAM courses in their curricula under NEP 2020. In the address of the nodal officer, Prof Das elaborated how to transfer credits earned from SWAYAM to Assam University through ABC id of students. He also mentioned that in Silchar there is an exam center at Sonai Road for online examination of SWAYAM courses. IQAC Director Prof Pandey explains the need of SWAYAM courses. Director RDC Prof Roy elaborated the various initiatives of the government for the NEP 2020 implementation.
In the last part of the inaugural session, Dr. Tapodhir Acherjee, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, offered the vote of thanks.
The technical sessions began post tea break and were led by Dr. Angana Sengupta, who delivered two highly informative sessions on the structure, implementation, and academic benefits of SWAYAM and NPTEL courses. The sessions were followed by an interactive Q&A round, which provided valuable insights and clarifications to participants.
A special presentation on the AU SWAYAM Local Chapter was given by Prof. Prodipto Das, highlighting the university’s progress, achievements, and future goals with SWAYAM initiatives. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kalyan Das, SWAYAM Coordinator, Department of Business Administration.
This workshop marked a significant step toward advancing digital learning and fostering a culture of continuous professional development in the university. The programme is conducted by Dr Sangita Goala.
