On National Librarians Day, Smart Library System, Dynamic Library Portal inaugurated at Assam University

Aug. 12: Rabindra Library, Assam University observed National Librarians’ Day on 12 August, 2021 to commemorate the 129^th Birth Anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S.R. Ranganathan. The occasion was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examination, Director of College Development Council and Chairman of Library Standing Committee.

The celebration was initiated with the lighting of the lamp which is the symbol of knowledge followed by offering of floral tributes to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan by the dignitaries of Assam University and officials of the Library. As part of the ceremony, Smart Library System (RFID), Dynamic Library Portal and Single Service Desk were inaugurated by Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, Vice Chancellor of the varsity who appreciated the efforts of Team Library and commented that by addition of these services,  another milestone has been added to the achievements of the Library. He paid homage to the Father of Library Science, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan and shared his views regarding the technological development of Libraries in modern times.

This was followed by felicitation of the dignitaries. Director, CDC shared his views regarding the positive effect of digital access in libraries during the pandemic situation. This was followed by the address of the University Librarian, Dr. Vikram Sharma who thanked the Vice Chancellor for his support and for their continuous cooperation. Dr. Sharma shared that the Five Laws of Library Science as postulated by Padma Shri S.R. Ranganathan which are more relevant in the present era and technology as a tool to achieve it.  Dr. Sharma , while proposing vote of thanks, appreciated the efforts of the Team Library in upgrading itself to meet the present day requirements.
