Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain dons khaki, appointed as DSP

Jan. 12: Olympic medalist from Assam Lovlina Borgohain was honoured by the Assam government on Wednesday at a programme held at Janata Bhavan, Dispur. During the programme, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially handed over appointment letter of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the presence of DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, ADGP GP Singh and a host of cabinet ministers.

Expressing his views, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “From the backwaters of Assam to Olympic glory, journey of Smt. Lovlina Borgohai is inspiring. I’m elated to give her the appointment letter for the post of DySP. I congratulate her and hope that she will inspire the youth with her achievements in sports & official work. At the age she has become DSP, I am hopeful that she will be promoted as Superintendent of Police in the near future provided she completes her graduation.”

In her speech, Lovlina Borgohain said, “I express my heartfelt thanks to all for this honour bestowed upon me. This would be a most memorable day in my life. I will endeavour to make my state and my nation earn more name and fame and also disburse the responsibilities of Deputy Superintendent of Police which has been entrusted upon me.”

Later on while speaking with journalists, Lovlina said, “Before joining boxing, I aspired to join the police forces. But once I stepped into the world of boxing, this dream got lost. Today I am happy to find that my childhood dream has seen the light of the day.”

Cabinet Ministers Bimal Borah, Atul Borah, Parimal Suklabaidya, Dr Ranoj Pegu, Yogen Mahanta and others were present during the ceremony. The parents of Lovlina also graced the occasion and witnessed their daughter being appointed as DSP of Assam Police.
