NRC predominated even in Mahalaya, Hajela depicted as demon

মহালয়ার ভোরে এনআরসি ইস্যুতে সভা-মিছিলে সরব হল শিলচর শহর। জনস্রোতকে পাশে পেতে প্রতিবাদী কর্মসূচি নিল বরাকের দুটি সংগঠন– অল বরাক হিন্দু বাঙালি অ্যাসোসিয়েশন (আভা) ও নর্থ ইস্ট লিঙ্গুইস্টিক অ্যান্ড এথনিক কো-অর্ডিনেশন কমিটি (নেলেক)।  আভা শহরে মিছিল করে। তবে ৬টার মিছিল ৮টা পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করেও বেশি মানুষ জোটেনি। রাঙ্গিরখাড়ি থেকে তারা সদরঘাট পর্যন্ত হাঁটেন তাঁরা।

অন্যদিকে সদরঘাটে প্রতিবাদী সভা করে নর্থ ইস্ট লিঙ্গুইস্টিক অ্যান্ড এথনিক কো-অর্ডিনেশন কমিটি (নেলেক)। কালো কাপড়ের মালা পরে খসড়া-ছুটদের জন্য পুরনো ১৫ নথির বৈধতার দাবি করা হয়।১৯৫১ সালের এনআরসি, ১৯৭১ সালের ভোটার তালিকা, রেশন কার্ড, নাগরিকত্বের শংসাপত্র এবং শরণার্থী পরিচয়পত্রকে প্রামাণ্য দলিলের বাইরে রাখার জন্য সু্প্রিম কোর্টে প্রস্তাব দেওয়ায় এনআরসি সমন্বয়কারী প্রতীক হাজেলাকে তাঁরা মহিষাসুরকে অভিহিত করেন। সভাস্থলের পেছনে ফ্ল্যাক্সে দুর্গার ছবি আঁকা হয়। সেখানে মহিষাসুরের জায়গায় হাজেলাকে বসানো হয়েছে। পাশে তাঁকে কটাক্ষ করে দীর্ঘ এক কবিতা। নেলেকের কর্মকর্তা শান্তনু নায়েক, শুভ্রাংশুশেখর ভট্টাচার্য, কঙ্কন নারায়ণ শিকদার,  ড. অভিজিত নাথ, অভ্রজিত চক্রবর্তী, গোপাল রায় প্রমুখ সেখানে বক্তব্য রাখেন। তাঁরা বলেন, হাজেলার জন্যই অসমের ৪০ লক্ষ মানুষ আজ দিশেহারা। দেশের প্রকৃত নাগরিক হয়েও এনআরসি থেকে নাম কাটা যাওয়ার আশঙ্কায় তাঁরা দুর্গোতসবের আনন্দে সামিল হতে পারছেন না।

এ দিকে, হাজেলাকে মহিষাসুরের সঙ্গে তুলনা করায় ব্রহ্মপুত্র উপত্যকায় প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখা দিয়েছে। বরাকেও একাংশ নাগরিক বিষয়টিকে ভাল নজরে নেননি। নেলেক ও আভা দুটি সংগঠনই গেরুয়া প্রভাবিত। ফলে এমন মন্তব্যও শোনা যায়, বিজেপি-কে দায়ভার থেকে আড়াল করতেই এই দুই সংগঠন হাজেলাকে ভিলেন বানিয়ে সভা-মিছিলে নেমেছে।

October 8: NRC predominated Silchar even during Mahalaya. In order to attract huge multitude of people who come out during morning hours of Mahalaya, two associations of Barak Valley took in hand a unique way of protest. The two associations are All Barak Hindu Bengali Association (ABHBA) and North East Linguistic and Ethnic Coordination Committee (NELECC). ABHA organized a rally at 6 in the morning. However, even after waiting till 8 AM only a few gathered under their banner. They started from Rangirkhari and reached Sadarghat.

On the other hand, a protest meeting was organized by North East Linguistic and Ethnic Coordination Committee (NELECC) at Sadarghat. Tieing black cloth around their neck, the members of NELECC demanded to restore the earlier 15 documents as valid for those who would be filling up the claims form. They depicted NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela as ‘Mahisasur’(the demon who was slayed by Goddess Durga) in a flex which they displayed for suggesting the Supreme Court to reject the 5 documents, which included, Names in NRC, 1951, Names in Electoral Roll upto 24th March, 1971, Citizenship Certificate; and Refugee Registration Certificate, Certified copies of pre-1971 Electoral Roll, particularly, those issued from the State of Tripura and Ration Card. Interesting, in the picture, Mahisasur was replaced by Hajela. A poem criticizing the role of Hajela was also printed on the flex. Relevant speeches were delivered by Santanu Nayak, Subhrangshu Shekhar Bhattacharjee, Kankan Narayan Sikidar, Dr. Abhijith Nath, Abhrojit Chakraborty, Gopal Roy and others on behalf of NELECC. They said that due to the tensed atmosphere prevailing as a result of NRC, they even were not in a mood of celebration during the ensuing Durga Puja.

Meanwhile, strong reactions were made in Brahmaputra Valley for depicting Prateek Hajela as Buffalo-demon ‘Mahisasur’. Even a section of the citizens in Barak valley too did not approve of this incident. It needs mention here that both ABHBA and NELECC are influenced by saffron ideology. As such, whispers were also heard wherein many opined that in order to shield BJP from being blamed for harassing common people in the name of NRC, Hajela was made a scapegoat by these associations.
