‘Not A Flop, But Super Flop Show’: Gaurav
way2barak Feb 9: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday slammed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s press conference as a “super flop show”, after the CM alleged that an investigation was under way into Gogoi’s alleged links with Pakistan in the name of national security.
Reacting to the Chief Minister’s press meet on Saturday, Gogoi said the event failed to convince journalists despite lasting nearly two and a half hours. “We listened to the Chief Minister’s press conference for nearly two and a half hours. The CM tried his best to popularise his flop cinema, but even after such a long press meet, the media persons present in the hall were not convinced,” he said.
Gogoi, who is also the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, added that the questions raised by journalists clearly showed that the Chief Minister could not provide proper proof. “Despite his best efforts, the CM failed to convince them and could not present sufficient proof before the media,” he said.
Referring to his earlier comment, Gogoi said, “A few days ago, I said that the CM’s press conference would be a flop show. But I was wrong—it turned out to be a super flop show.”
The Congress leader also questioned the timing of the Chief Minister’s claims. He asked why the matter was raised after six months if it was so serious. “He said he would reveal everything on September 10. But why did he sit on the file for six months? Why was he sleeping over it?” Gogoi asked.
He alleged that the issue was being raised now only because elections were approaching. “Now, as elections are nearing, he wants to create an issue for elections!,” Gogoi said.
According to the Congress MP, the delay showed that the Chief Minister himself was not convinced. “That is why he neither forwarded it to the Central Government nor took any action for six months,” he added.
AICC General Secretary Bhanwar Jitendra Singh also criticised the press conference, calling it “false”.
“We have listened to a false press conference by the Assam Chief Minister. Every Assamese respects former CM Tarun Gogoi. He was a leader of every household. The development Assam is witnessing today is the result of his efforts,” Singh said.
“He was like a father to the state. Today, the people of Assam are saddened because the CM is accusing the son and grandchildren of a person who was so close to their hearts,” Singh added.
AICC media coordinators Nigat Abbas and Kaushik Bhattacharya also called the press conference as a flop show, saying it reflected the Chief Minister’s frustration.
Bhattacharya challenged the Assam government to take legal action if it had proof. “If the government has evidence, they should go to court and file a case against Gaurav Gogoi,” he said.
