Northeastern states including Assam likely to witness heavy rainfall during 29 March to 2 April

March 27: Under the influence of strong lower level south-westerlies winds from the Bay of Bengal, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/ lightning at isolated places are very likely over Northeast India during 29 March to 2 April with maximum activity on 30 & 31 March, 2021.

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated heavy falls on 29 March & 1 April and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on 30 & 31 March are very likely over South Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 1 April, 2021. It may cause landslides and inundation of low lying areas at some places over south Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram during 30 March to 1 April, 2021.

Accordingly, the IMD has issued an orange alert over Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the advisory urging residents to ‘be prepared’ for rough conditions.
