NIT Silchar secures 6th position in India & 275th worldwide in the UI GreenMetric 2020

Dec. 10: It;s another feather in the cap of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar. This premier institution located in southern most part of Assam (Silchar) has earned laurels both for itself and the region as a whole. NIT Silchar has bagged the 6th position in India and 275th worldwide in the UI GreenMetric 2020. It was indeed a tough fight as 922 universities from 84 countries participated in the rankings. 

Taking to its official twitter handle, Ministry of Education, Government of India on 9 December wrote, “Extremely happy to share that #NITSilchar secured 6th position in #India and 275th worldwide in the UI GreenMetric 2020. 922 universities from 84 countries participated in the rankings. Congrats to Prof. Sivaji Bandyopadhyay – Director, #NITSilchar on this achievement.”

The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is an initiative of Universitas Indonesia which is being launched in 2010. The aim of this ranking is to provide the result of online survey regarding the current condition and policies related to Green Campus and Sustainability in the Universities all over the world. The results were based on a numerical score that would allow ranking so that quick comparisons could be made among them on the criteria of their commitment to addressing the problems of sustainability and environmental impact. The criteria include such baseline information as the size of the university, both spatially and in terms of population, the campus location and the amount of green space; and also information on energy use, transport, water use and recycling and waste treatment. In addition, it will ask about efforts being made by the institution towards establishing green policies and management.

NIT Silchar, considered as one of the most beautiful green campus in the world really deserves best wishes for working hard to secure the 6th position in India and 275th worldwide in the UI GreenMetric 2020.
