Nirbhaya: Justice after 7 years, 4 culprits hanged to death

March 20: After prolonged wait of 7 years, the four culprits who committed the heinous crime of rape and subsequent murder of Nirbhaya were ultimately hanged to death on Friday morning at 5.30 AM. A huge crowd assembled outside the Tihar jail in Delhi where the culprits were hanged.

The 4 convicts who were hanged are Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vijay Sharma and Akshay Thakur. Expressing their reaction, Nirbhayas parents said, “Her soul will now rest in peace.” Her mother said, “My daughter has finally got justice today.”

Four men executed simultaneously for first time in Tihar history, said Jail officials after Nirbhaya convicts’ hanging.

The Nirbhaya incident further exposed the flaws in the Indian legal system. Convicts were given a lot of time, many pleas were filed to delay the execution. The crowd outside Tihar Jail held placards expressing thanks to Indian judiciary.
