NGO Paavan celebrates its 1st anniversary with slum children
Nov. 14: NGO Paavan celebrated its 1st anniversary in a unique way on Saturday. The day also commemorates the birth of Jawaharlal Nehru and is observed as Children’s Day throughout the country. To mark the occasion, the members of NGO Paavan spent the day along with the underprivileged slum children.
During the day, the members of Paavan went to the slums located at Sri Bhumi Colony, Uday Nagar near Tarapur, Silchar. There they distributed food items, school stationery items and woolen garments among 50 children. “The smile on the faces of the children was the greatest satisfaction which we had. We hope to be besides such underprivileged lot in the future also,” said Anusakha Chakraborty, one of the founder members.
Arundhati Dutta Choudhury said, “We have formed PAAVAN to do something beneficial for the marginalised sections of the society. I along with Anusakha Chakraborty founded this organisation. In fact, when we sat to finalise the name of our organisation, we were six members by that time. So we decided to keep a name out of the first six alphabets of our names. The six members are Priya, Arundhati, Anusakha, Vijoyeta, Anindita and Namrata.”
