New India-Bhutan Immigration Checkpost In Assam To Facilitate Trade And Tourism

way2barak, November 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck announced that a new immigration check post will be established at Hatisar in Assam to facilitate travel for investors and visitors to Bhutan’s upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City. In a joint statement issued in Thimphu, the two countries said the move would enhance ease of movement and bolster economic cooperation in the border region.

 

During the visit, India and Bhutan reviewed ongoing initiatives to strengthen border and transport infrastructure. The two sides welcomed the operationalisation of the immigration check post at Darranga in 2024 and the launch of the Inland Waterways Terminal and Multimodal Logistics Park in Jogigopha in March 2025.
