New faculty to be appointed maintaining ‘teacher student ratio’, states ABVP during meeting with Edu Min

Sept. 9: Representatives of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Assam met State Education Minister Dr. Ranuj Pegu on Thursday. The delegation of Assam ABVP was led by its State Secretary, Rakesh Das. ABVP submitted a memorandum with 18 highlighted points regarding educational issues of Assam to the minister. They also had a fruitful discussion regarding other aspects of the education sector in Assam.

Apart from developing infrastructure of the educational institutes, increasing number of seats, introduction of shifts, ABVP also urged upon the minister to appoint new faculty members by maintaining the teacher- student ratio. They also demanded that all vacant posts of teachers should be immediately filled up. ABVP stated that the government must complete 100% vaccination of students before reopening of educational institutions. Abiding by the decision of RUSA, Science and Commerce colleges must be opened in each district, stated ABVP. Another important demand raised by ABVP was to ensure that results of TDC and PG examinations must be declared within 45 days of completion of examinations.

It needs mention here that a meeting on educational issues of Assam was convened by State Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu in Guwahati on 30 August. The meeting was attended by representatives various institutions. However, ABVP was not invited to that meeting my the Education minister. As a result, ABVP expressed strong resentment for not being invited to the meeting convened by the Department of Education wherein a gamut of educational issues were discussed by the concerned minister with a large number of students’ associations of the state. Apart from many former office bearers of ABVP, some present members expressed their grievance in social media.
