January 10: A cultural exchange programme will be organised by Barak Valley Welfare Development Society in collaboration with Lions Club of Silchar Lioness on 19 January, 2020. The cultural exchange programme will be held in Banga Bhavan from 5 PM. The special attraction of the cultural probramme will be the melodious singer from Karnataka, Venugopal BN and young Harmonica player from West Bengal, Subhronil Sarkar.

The cultural exchange programme at Silchar will be organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. This was informed by the members of Barak Valley Welfare Development Society in collaboration with Lions Club of Silchar Lioness in a press meet organised at Silchar on Friday.

Addressing newsmen, the organisers of the cultural exchange programme informed that there is a noble motive behind organising this programme. Though the programme will be staged under the support of the central government, yet they have made provision for entry passes. The money thus collected by selling entry passes will be spent in opening a Diabetic Centre at Silchar.

On behalf of Barak Valley Welfare Development Society, Gaurav Chanda and Puja Das attended the press meet, whereas on behalf of Lions Club of Silchar Lioness, Ipshita Dutta, Nandini Purkayastha, Paromita Paul, Anjana Deb and others were present. Speaking during the press meet, Gaurav Chanda said, “From the last decade, the Ministry of Culture under the Government of India has been lending its helping hand in organising such programme. It is for the 1st time that Barak Valley Welfare Development Society in collaboration with Lions Club of Silchar Lioness is going to organise this programme at Silchar.”

However, the idea of starting the Diabetic Centre is the brain child of Lions Club of Silchar Lioness. They expressed the view that the money collected from this cultural programme would be used to lay the foundation of the Diabetic Centre. They will also seek land for this purpose from the district administration. In this connection, they have even given a memorandum to the erstwhile Deputy Commissioner, Laya Madduri.

Others present in the press meet informed that in the cultural exchange programme, apart from the two renowned artists, there will be performances by local artists also. In this way, they would be able to provide a platform for the talented artists of the valley to showcase their artistic qualities.
