New born baby abandoned in garbage dump, rescued & taken to a shelter home in Silchar

July 27: With the spike in the number of Coronavirus cases, people are too scared about getting infected and none usually takes the risk of venturing out without any reason or compulsion. However, at the same time, an incident which took place in Hailakandi on Monday gave a rude shock to humanity. A 2-day-old baby girl was found abandoned near a garbage dump at Sultani Bagan in Hailakandi.

Passersby had found the abandoned girl wrapped in a cloth, who is barely two days old at around 4 PM on Monday and immediately raised a hue and cry. Police said that the people passing by, heard the cries of the baby girl and called up the police. At once, they called Childline (1098). The infant was then taken to Hailakandi Civil Hospital for preliminary check up. The infant was found stable. Finally, the baby was rescued and provided shelter at Nivedita Nari Sangstha in Silchar.

This incident came to light and became viral in social media when a journalist of Hailakandi, Nilotpol Deb Pol posted pictures of the baby in his Facebook wall. The post soon became so viral that within 4 hours, it was shared by 129 netizens.

Indeed, such type of an incident raises various questions time and again which the civilised human society had failed to answer even in the past. Luckily stray dogs in the area had not attacked the child. Probably, the baby, if fortunate, may be adopted by somebody in the future. However, whenever such type of incidents are reported, an unanswered question that circulates in every humane (not human) heart is- “What is the fault of this little flower to be abandoned in a garbage dump? Like many such similar incidents in the past, this incident too will have no reply but unending & strange silence!
