May 31: Eminent journalist & social activist Pijush Kanti Das passes away on 27 May, 2020. However, socio-cultural organisation “Netaji Chatra Yuba Sangstha” could not fathom this bitter truth. He was an integral part of the Sangstha and always provided impetus to the members. His presence gave a new meaning to the activities of the association, be it free solar light distribution programme at Narayanpur or distribution of food among the poor on the 1st day of the Bengali month of ‘Baisakh.’

In the recent past, when the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic led to nationwide lockdown, the association involved itself in distribution of relief materials among the poor and needy. It was again Pijush Kanti Das, who stayed beside the Sangstha like a friend, philosopher and guide. Apart from this, he was like an umbrella over the head of ‘Juba Darpan’ newspaper and portal started by the association. Members of Netaji Chatra Yuba Sangstha expressed utmost grief at the loss of a man of high stature like him.

On Wednesday, when after his death, he was taken out in a mortuary van followed by hundreds of fellow journalists & his kith and kin, it was indeed a painful moment. The mortuary van was brought at the Ambicapatty office of Netaji Chatra Yuba Sangstha, an association which was very close to his heart. There the members of the Sangstha placed a wreath on his body.

Though his death has demoralised us all, yet we are promise bound to fulfill his wish and so we have resolved to complete this project of old-age home within a year.” Pijush Kanti Das was involved with Netaji Chatra Yuba Sangstha since 2015.
