NESO to observe 11 Dec as ‘Black Day’ across North East against CAA
Dec. 9: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has declared that they will observe December 11 as a ‘Black Day’ in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) throughout North East. Activists of the Students’ body will display black flags and black banners at all locations across all the Northeast States on 11 December.
NESO comprises of 8 top student bodies of 7 Northeast States – All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU).
Mentioning about the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the Parliament on December 11 last year, North East Students’ Organisation Chairman Samuel B Jyrwa. said, “The Government of India did not pay heed to the opposition of the people of Northeast and passed the draconian law known as Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, in the Rajya Sabha. Observing black day will also remind our people of yet another political injustice that the Government of India perpetrated on the indigenous people of the Northeast.”
