Need for multiple procurement centers for farmers to bring their surplus conveniently: DC Cachar
November 7: A review meeting on achievement of ongoing agricultural schemes of agricultural department, Cachar District was held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner ,Cachar. Laya Madduri.
At the outset, a discussion was held on paddy procurement. The District agriculture officer (D.A.O) has submitted that this year, the target fixed by the department in Cachar District is 4000 quintals and he suggested all additional procurement centers to achieve that target. The DAO also suggested opening of a multiple procurement centers, as the existing centre at Ramnagar was not sufficient enough for storage. The Deputy commissioner Cachar and Secretary Marketing Board also agreed to his suggestion.
The Area Manager FCI also attended the meeting and submitted a report wherein he mentioned about shortage of manpower in his department and other relevant constraints to go for opening of multiple procurement centers.
Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri emphasized on the need for establishment of multiple procurement centres so that the farmers can bring their surplus to the nearby center conveniently with minimum transportation cost. She also asked the In-charge Area Manager of FCI and departmental officials of Agriculture to identify the unused buildings owned by the government departments so that it can be utilised for the purpose of paddy procurement. The Deputy commissioner also asked the inter-related departments for better coordination so that the paddy procurement process may be fruitful and beneficial to the farmers and farming community of the District.
Later on, by means of a power point presentation, the District Agriculture Officer briefed the house about the progress and achievements of all schematic activities of agriculture department with reference to fund utilisation and availability of the funds under various components. It was revealed from the power point presentation that due to lack of interest of the farmers, some subsidized components of agricultural inputs and machinaries could not be implemented at the desire level.
The Deputy Commissioner suggested for wide publicity and developed micro communication aspects so that the farmers may come forward to avail the benefits of various schemes.
