NCC undertakes cleanliness drive under ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ along with local NGO’s

Aug. 25: ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’ Keeping the environment clean is not just the duty, but a responsibility that the citizens must understand. ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’, a nationwide campaign was launched by NCC to clean sea shores, rivers and other waterbodies surrounded with plastics and wastes. The objective is to spread this noble cause among the population.

On Thursday, the massive cleanliness drive under Puneet Sagar Abhiyan was undertaken by around 200 young cadets of 3 Assam and 62 Assam Girls Battalion under Silchar group NCC of North Eastern NCC Directorate under the guidance of Colonel Ritesh Pal. The drive was a huge success and warm help was extended by various NGO’s like Leo Club of Silchar (Central), Vihaan, Team Milaap, Donor’s Hub and Robin Hood army.

The drive was carried out along the banks of river Barak in Shib Bari Road, Silchar. The area had large pile of garbage from a long time. Over 8 tons of the garbage were collected and sealed in garbage bags and were disposed through trucks to the dump yard through the help of Silchar Municipal Board.

The drive did not only ushered cleanliness in the area but also smile in the face of the residents. They appreciated the work and enthusiasm of NCC cadets. MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty donated garbage pit in the area for regular waste disposal. His representative to SMB, Debashish Shome also extended helping hand to the cause. Subedar Major and PI staff and ANO OF 62 Assam Girls BN also lend their helping hand.
