National Space Day Celebrated at Assam University
নানা কর্মসূচিতে জাতীয় মহাকাশ দিবস উদযাপিত আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২৩ আগস্ট : আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগ ও আয়ুকা সেন্টার ফর অ্যাস্ট্রোনমি রিসার্চ অ্যান্ড ডেভেলপমেন্ট (আইসিএআরডি)-এর উদ্যোগে শনিবার মেঘনাদ সাহা কনফারেন্স হলে জাতীয় মহাকাশ দিবস উদযাপন করা হয়। দিনব্যাপী এই অনুষ্ঠানে বরাক উপত্যকার বিভিন্ন স্কুল ও কলেজের প্রায় ১৫০ জন শিক্ষার্থীও অংশগ্রহণ করে।এ দিন সকালে অনুষ্ঠানের উদ্বোধন করেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ।  উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিভাগীয় প্রধান  অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস, আইআইটি গুয়াহাটির অধ্যাপক শান্তব্রত দাস, অনুষ্ঠানের সমন্বয়ক ড. মহানন্দ বড়ো প্রমুখ। অনুষ্ঠানে পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগের ছাত্রী এম. সুস্মিতা সিংহা ও সোরাইসাম বৃন্দা জংরি মনোমুগ্ধকর মণিপুরি নৃত্য পরিবেশন করেন।

স্বাগত বক্তব্যে ড. বড়ো এই উদযাপনের উদ্দেশ্য তুলে ধরেন। অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস বলেন, এ ধরনের অনুষ্ঠান বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও সমাজের মধ্যে একটি সেতুবন্ধন তৈরি করে। বিশেষ করে স্কুল ও কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীদেরও অনুপ্রাণিত করে। অধ্যাপক শান্তব্রত দাস জাতীয় মহাকাশ দিবসের তাৎপর্য নিয়ে কথা বলেন এবং শিক্ষার্থীদের সঙ্গে মতবিনিময়ের সুযোগ করে দেওয়ার জন্য বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে ধন্যবাদ জানান। উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক পন্থ দেশের মহাকাশ গবেষণার বিভিন্ন মাইলফলক—প্রথম উপগ্রহ উৎক্ষেপণ থেকে শুরু করে আসন্ন গগনযান মিশন—পর্যন্ত স্মরণ করেন। তিনি চন্দ্রযান-৩ এর সাফল্যের প্রশংসা করেন এবং বলেন, এটি ভারতের মহাকাশ গবেষণায় নতুন মাত্রা যোগ করেছে। শেষে ধন্যবাদসূচক বক্তব্য রাখেন অধ্যাপক অত্রি দেশমুখ্য।  অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনা করেন সঞ্চালী নাথ মজুমদার।

অনুষ্ঠানে তরুণ শিক্ষার্থীদের যুক্ত করতে এবং অনুপ্রাণিত করার জন্য একাধিক প্রতিযোগিতার আয়োজন করা হয়। পঞ্চম থেকে দশম শ্রেণির শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য মডেল প্রতিযোগিতায় প্রথম পুরস্কার পায় রয়্যাল ইংলিশ একাডেমির ঋদ্ধি দেবী। দ্বিতীয় পুরস্কার যৌথভাবে পায় রামনগর বিবেকানন্দ কেন্দ্র বিদ্যালয়ের দিগ্বিজয় ধর ও ঋত্বিক নাথ এবং আল-আমিন ইনস্টিটিউট অব এডুকেশনের নুমান চৌধুরী ও জয়রুল ইসলাম বড়ভূঁইয়া। তৃতীয় পুরস্কার যৌথভাবে পায় বড়জালেঙ্গার বিবেকানন্দ কেন্দ্র বিদ্যালয়ের বিহাণ দে ও সোহম নাথএবং ইউনিক পাবলিক স্কুলের ইমরানা ফেরদৌস তাপাদার, আনিশা তাসনিম ও ফায়জা সানজিদা। বিশেষ পুরস্কার পায় হলিক্রস এইচ.এস. স্কুলের মৃগাঙ্ক আচার্য ও কস্তব চক্রবর্তী, ডন বস্কো স্কুলের ঐশী জ্যোতি ও প্রাচীতসী দাস এবং রামনগর বিবেকানন্দ কেন্দ্র বিদ্যালয়ের মৃগাঙ্ক দত্ত ও অর্কাজ্যোতি নাথ।

অষ্টম থেকে দ্বাদশ শ্রেণির কুইজ প্রতিযোগিতায় হলিক্রস এইচএস স্কুলের অর্ণব পাল ও বিত্যন্তিক সেন শর্মার দল প্রথম স্থান অধিকার করে। দ্বিতীয় স্থান অধিকার করে রামনগরের বিবেকানন্দ কেন্দ্র বিদ্যালয়ের দেবার্ঘ চক্রবর্তী ও চিরঞ্জিত নাথ চৌধুরী, এবং তৃতীয় স্থান পায় গুরুকুল ইংলিশ মিডিয়াম স্কুলের অরিন্দম চৌধুরী ও অস্মিত দেব। স্নাতক স্তরের শিক্ষার্থীদের মৌখিক উপস্থাপনা প্রতিযোগিতায় প্রথম পুরস্কার পান কাছাড় কলেজের সঞ্জিত প্রসাদ গোয়ালা। দ্বিতীয় পুরস্কার পান ওই কলেজের শ্যানন রহমান মজুমদার এবং তৃতীয় পুরস্কার পান করিমগঞ্জ কলেজের তৌফিক আহমেদ সামা। ‘বিকশিত ভারত ইন অরবিট: লিডিং দ্য নিউ স্পেস রেস’ শীর্ষক রচনা প্রতিযোগিতায়, গ্রুপ এ-তে (দশম–দ্বাদশ শ্রেণি) গুরুকুল ইংলিশ মিডিয়াম স্কুলের মহিতোষ কাউর প্রথম ও আল-আমিন ইনস্টিটিউট অব এডুকেশনের আসফাক আহমেদ লস্কর দ্বিতীয় স্থান অধিকার করে। গ্রুপ বি-তে (স্নাতক ও স্নাতকোত্তর স্তর) আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সব্যসাচী বসু প্রথম এবং এম. সুস্মিতা সিংহ দ্বিতীয় পুরস্কার লাভ করেন।

সমাপনী অধিবেশনে পৌরোহিত্য করেন অধ্যাপক অশোক কুমার সেন। উপস্থিত ছিলেন অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস, অধ্যাপক বি. ইন্দ্রজিৎ শর্মা ও ড. উৎপল সরকার। বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতার বিজয়ীদের পুরস্কৃত করা হয় এবং ড. বড়ো-র ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপনের মাধ্যমে অনুষ্ঠান শেষ হয়।

Way2barak, August 23 : The Department of Physics, Assam University, Silchar (AUS), in collaboration with the IUCAA Centre for Astronomy Research and Development (ICARD), celebrated National Space Day–2025 on Saturday at the Meghnad Saha Conference Hall. The day-long programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from school, college, and university students across the Barak Valley.

The inaugural session, chaired by Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice Chancellor of Assam University, commenced at 10 a.m. Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das (Head, Department of Physics), Prof. Santabrata Das of IIT Guwahati (Chief Guest), and Dr. Mahananda Baro (Coordinator of the event) graced the dais. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a graceful Manipuri dance performance by Ms. M. Susmita Singha and Ms. Soraisam Brinda Dzongri, both students of the Department of Physics.

In his welcome address, Dr. Baro highlighted the objective of the celebration, while Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das noted that such programmes create a bridge between the university and society, especially inspiring young school and college students. Prof. Santabrata Das spoke on the significance of National Space Day, thanking AUS for the opportunity to interact with students. Vice Chancellor, in his address, recalled India’s milestones in space research — from its first satellite launch to the upcoming Gaganyaan mission — and praised the success of Chandrayaan-3, which he said had brought a new dimension to India’s space exploration. The vote of thanks for the inaugural session was offered by Prof. Atri Deshamukhya, and the proceedings were anchored by Ms. Sanchali Nath Mazumder.

The day featured a series of competitions designed to engage and inspire young minds. In the Model Competition for students of Classes V to X, the first prize was awarded to Riddhi Devi of Royal English Academy for her model on Lagrange Points. The second prize was jointly shared by Digbijoy Dhar and Ritvik Nath of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Ramnagar, Silchar for Shukrayan, and Numan Choudhury with Joyrul Islam Barbhuiya of Al-Ameen Institute of Education for Bharatiya Antariksha Station. The third prize went jointly to Bihaan Dey and Soham Nath of VKV Borjalenga for Solar and Lunar Eclipse, and to Imrana Ferdous Tapadar, Anisha Tasnim, and Faiza Sanjida of Unique Public School for Anti-Suicide Alarm. Special awards were given to Mriganka Acharjee and Kaustav Chakraborty of Holy Cross H.S. School for Aditya-L1, Oishee Jyoti and Prachetosi Das of Don Bosco School, Silchar for Human Colony on Mars, and Mriganko Dutta with Arkajyoti Nath of VKV Ramnagar for Kalpana-1.

In the Quiz Competition (Classes VIII to XII), the team of Arnab Paul and Bityantik Sen Sharma from Holy Cross H.S. School secured the first prize. The second prize was bagged by Debargho Chakraborty and Chiranjit Nath Choudhury of VKV, Ramnagar, while the third prize went to Arindom Choudhury and Ashmit Deb of Gurukul English Medium School.

In the Oral Presentation Competition for undergraduate students, the first prize was won by Sanjeet Prasad Goala of Cachar College for his talk on Aditya-L1. The second prize was secured by Shanon Rahman Mazumder of Cachar College for Three-Body Problem, and the third prize went to Taufiq Ahmed Sama of Karimganj College for his presentation on Space Ethics.

In the Essay Competition on the theme Viksit Bharat in Orbit: Leading the New Space Race, Group A (Classes X–XII) winners were Mohitush Kour of Gurukul English Medium School (first prize) and Asfaque Ahmed Laskar of Al-Ameen Institute of Education (second prize). In Group B (UG & PG level), the first prize was awarded to Sabyasachee Bose of Assam University, while the second prize went to M. Susmita Singha of Assam University.

Teachers from various colleges also attended the event, including Mr. Rajat Subhra Paul, Dr. Abinash Suklabaidya, Dr. Pritibhajan Byakti, Mr. Kanchan Singh, Dr. Subhagaurab Roy, Dr. Gayatri Ghosh, and Dr. Tanvir Hussain, who encouraged and supported student participants.

The smooth conduct of the event was made possible through the active involvement of M.Sc. students and research scholars of the Department of Physics, Assam University, who assisted in organizing the competitions, managing logistics, and coordinating with participants and judges throughout the day.

The valedictory session, chaired by Prof. Asoke Kumar Sen, was attended by Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, Prof. B. Indrajit Sharma, and Dr. Utpal Sarkar. Winners of various competitions were felicitated, and the session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Baro. The event was once again compered by Ms. Sanchali Nath Mazumder.
