Watch here the 'Balcony Bihu' from Pune by two sisters

April 18: The nationwide lockdown has captivated all within the confines of the four walls of our home. Festivals, ceremonies and celebrations have all come to a standstill. Yes, this is the present scenario as our nation fights the battle against the dreaded coronavirus. The festival of Bihu, Poila Baisakh, Pongal etc. were all marred by the lockdown this year. Yet all Indians have accepted this lockdown and stood besides the government to break the chain of COVID-19. However, as it is said, “Every cloud has a silver lining”, the same could now be experienced by millions during this lockdown.

Social media is full of live events where individuals are uploading their songs, dance, recitation and what not. Some of the uploads are so amazing that had there been no lockdown, these talents would have gone unnoticed. A similar video of two sisters singing a Bihu song became so viral that not only the Assamese but people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Assam to Gujarat are now playing this soulful rendition. People from abroad has also applauded the sisters in their Youtube channel listening to their song.

The video of two Assamese sisters performing on the occasion of Rangoli Bihu is simple yet refreshing to its core. The sister duo presented a ‘Balcony Bihu Concert’ on the first day of Assamese New Year. Playing ukeleles and dressed in traditional mekhla-chadors, Antara and Akita Nandy performed on the balcony of their house in Pune. The song sung by them was so impressive that, it also went to the notice of Assam Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inspite of all his busy schedule during the outbreak of this pandemic. He also shared the Youtube link of this song.

Taking to his twitter handle on 17 April, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “After a hectic day, it is refreshing to hear this Soulful Bihu from Antara and Ankita Nandi -Phul Phulise Boxontot | Moina Kun Bidhataai | Nandy Sisters | Bihu Balco… youtu.be/DSbEd1qwUPM via @YouTube. The Nandy sisters when they saw the tweet today (Saturday) acknowledged the minister and wrote “What an absolutely wonderful start to my day !! Thank you so much for the Validation, Sir” in their Facebook page.

While uploading the song “Phul Phulise Boxontot | Moina Kun Bidhataai”, The Nandy sisters wrote in Youtube, “Lockdown holding you back from enjoying Bihu ? Yeh Lijiye – Balcony Bihu Concert by Us 😂🙏🙏 Wishing my Assamese family a very Happy Bihu ♥️♥️ ( Pardon our Mistakes🙏) Wishing my Bengali family a very happy Poila Boishakh ♥️ Hope this video gets your grooving !”

WHEN I CALL CORONA VIRUS A SMALL THING – IT IS DEFINITELY NOT A SMALL THING. I CALLED IT SMALL WITH RESPECT TO THE SPIRIT OF BIHU THAT RESIDES IN US ALL !! Bihu is a spirit – one that cannot be held down by something as trivial ( not literally though) as Corona Virus! We can stay home and yet enjoy Bihu by spreading positivity in our own way – here's ours! Sending loads of love from Pune to all our Assamese Listeners !STAY HOME STAY SAFE ! WE PROMISE TO KEEP YOU ENTERTAINED .#LivingRoomBihuConcert #NandySistersLive #UkuleleAndBihu #AnkitaAndAntaraNandy

A netizen commented on Youtube, “This is first time I heard Assamese song and I don’t know how many times I have already watch this again and again. The instruments (or lack of it), brilliant costumes, dance moves, intonations, editing and Attention to other details has created a master piece for sure.” Another person who doesn’t know Assamese but was so impressed by the song wrote, “I didn’t understand a word. But it has been heard over 25 times … Just became enchanted.” Yes, this is the power of music which can unite all irrespective of the differences of caster, creed, language, colour and make the world a better place to live in.”
