Nagatilla main road gets submerged in knee-level water on Tuesday night
May 18: With incessant rainfall in the valley since last couple of days, all the major rivers here are flowing above the danger level. River Barak was also flooded and the water level on Tuesday was also increasing. On Tuesday, due to torrential rainfall, many parts of Silchar town were inundated due to rain water accumulation. Water entered in many low lying areas and the people have now taken shelter at various relief camps opened by the district administration.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday late night night, local people at Nagatilla area of Sonai Road alleged that water from Barak has overflowed and was gradually flowing through the main street. People claimed that since morning on Tuesday, water could be seen to overflow from the river. However, the speed at which the water was flowing out increased around Tuesday midnight. They also said that water from the river has entered inside the houses of the people residing at Uttar Krishnapur Part-I. The water at Nagatilla main road (Mizoram road) was almost upto the knee-level. This area is just beside 365 Uttar Krishnapur LP School.
As per report received from Assam Water Resource Department, river Barak at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar at 4 AM on Wednesday was flowing much above the danger level and was recorded at 21.04 metres. The danger level at this point is 19.83 metre. The water level was was rising by 2 cm per hour. This is the highest level of water (21.01 mt) at Annapurna Ghat recorded this year.
