2-day arts & crafts exhibition-cum-sale ‘Golden Showcase’ begins at Radhamadhab College
March 2: As part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration year of Radhamadhab College, Silchar, an Arts & Crafts Exhibition cum Sale entitled “Golden Showcase” began on 2 March, which will continue till 3 March, 2021. The exhibition-cum-sale programme has been organised by the Committee for Games & Sports, Cultural cum Extra Curricular Activities Cell & Grievance Redressal Cell of the college in collaboration with the Academic Monitoring Cell. This programme was organised under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Radhamadhab College.
On Tuesday, the sale cum exhibition was formally inaugurated by LK Bhattacharjee, President, Governing Body of the college along with renowned entrepreneur Santanu Sutradhar. Dr. Ruma Nath Choudhury, Convenor of Cultural cum Extra Curricular Activities Cell delivered the welcome address. Arundhuti Dutta Choudhury, Convenor of Academic Monitoring Cell explained the objective of the workshop.
In his speech, Santanu Sutradhar appreciated the efforts of the college for organising such an exhibition. Encouraging the participants, he said, “The participants have very nicely prepared the crafts and I must appreciate all of you for this effort. You should try to develop this leisure activity into an economically viable endeavour. Covid-19 along with its negative effects has also turned out to be a boon for boosting online trading. You can very well create an account on sites like Amazon and sell your products from the comfort of your own house.” He also stressed upon the concept of becoming ‘Atmanirbhar’ or self-sufficient.
Mr. Sutradhar further upholded the fact that the handicrafts industry has got a vast global market. He said, “Quality is what it matters to big buyers. If you can produce goods of good quality, then there will be no dearth of buyers. A few of you can also form groups and start self-help-groups. There are also various financial institutions from which such groups can seek finance for their work.” It needs mention here that Santanu Sutradhar is the proprietor of the famous ‘Disha Enterprise.’ He has participated in various national and international trade fairs and exhibitions of great repute. He also exhibited some of the crafts materials manufactured by him.
Speaking during the occasion, Lakhi Kanta Bhattacharjee, President, Governing Body of the College citing ancient Hindu scriptures urged upon the students to refine their talents and come up with new creativity, which would indeed enable them to carve out a niche for themselves. Principal of the college, Dr. Debashish Roy also thanked all the cell members who worked relentlessly for making the event a grand success. He also appreciated the students for displaying the arts and crafts made by them. Sudarshan Gupta, Organising Secretary of Golden Jubilee celebration committee too lauded the efforts of the organisers and participants of the exhibition.
Apart from the students and the alumni, crafts were also exhibited by the children of the teachers and staff. Anuradha Sanyal, mother of Arundhuti Dutta Choudhury, Head, Deptt of English of the college also displayed multiple objects made by her, which were mainly embroidered. Being the senior-most participant, Mrs Sanyal was felicitated by the Principal with an uttoriyo and golden jubilee memento. Dr. Ashima Roy also exhibited various hand made articles of her nearest relatives along with art and craft works made by her daughter Archismita Roy. Prerona Bhattacharjee, Lecturer, Deptt of English took part in the exhibition and displayed a number of her paintings which were appreciated by all.
It needs mention here that Radhamadhab College, Silchar established in the year 1971 is celebrating its Golden Jubilee in the year 2021. A year-long celebration to mark the Golden Jubilee began on 7 February, 2021 with a grand rally.
