MP Dr Rajdeep Roy visits a few spots of concern at the on going Mahasadak

Jan. 27: On Thursday, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy personally visited a few spots of concern at the on going Balacherra – Harangajao section on the Mahasadak connecting Silchar to Guwahati. He was there to inspect the ongoing work of the unfinished stretch of Mahasadak.

After inspecting the work, MP Dr Rajdeep Roy said, “I am here to inspect the work which is gong on under the able leadership of Sri Nitin Gadkari ji, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways. This work has been alloted through the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to Sushee Infra. There are 5 to 6 excavators and 2 JCB’s which are working here.”

As regards the progress of the work, Dr Roy said, “Apparently I am pleased at the level of work that has been going on. Yesterday, I had a talk with the NHIDCL officials. I told them that without the officials of NHIDCL, I will personally go and inspect the work. This is the reason, why I am here today to personally see the work that has been going on at the ground level.”

Earlier on 28 December, 2021, MP Dr Rajdeep Roy during a press meet at his residence informed, “In the stretch between  Balacherra – Harangajao, there are around 750 pilings which needs to be done at that stretch. The construction company assured me that the piling work would be completed by 31 December. As far as the information which I collected, around 600 piles have been completed, where another around 150 needs to be completed, which would be completed within the next one month. This would be followed by other related works. Actually, we have not missed the deadline. The deadline had already been extended from March 2022 to March 2023. So we are hopeful that by this deadline, we will be able to make this road motorable.”

The foundation stone of this 4 lane expressway (Mahasadak) connecting Silchar with Saurashtra was laid in 2004. However, for more than a decade, almost no progress was made in the stretch connecting Silchar to Haflong. However, with the new political dispensation in power, work has gained momentum. Now the Balacherra – Harangajao section on the Mahasadak awaits completion. The work of Balacherra- Harangajao segment, a stretch of 25.25 kms is being done under the guidance of MoRTH, Government of India and executed by NHIDCL through Sushee Infra & Mines.
