More than 60% of China likely to be infected by Covid-19 over the next 90 days

way2barak, Dec.21: China once again is grappling with a sudden resurgence of Covid cases. The fresh wave has caught China off guard after its stringent lockdown was lifted last month. The BF.7 variant of the Omicron strain is believed to be the main factor behind the present rise in Covid cases.

A video showing a doctor collapsing at a hospital in China amid the rush due to rise in COVID-19 cases in the country has surfaced online. The doctor suddenly collapsed on his chair needing the intervention of other doctors. Hospitals too are packed to their capacity and crematoriums are seeing a sudden surge in bodies.

China is currently in the first of three COVID-19 waves predicted in the country, Wu Zunyou, the chief epidemiologist of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention has said. Zunyou said the current wave would peak this winter and three coronavirus waves are predicted in total, in three months.

According to an estimate, more than 60% of China and 10% of the world’s population are likley to be infected by Covid in the next 90 days. Millions of deaths have been forecast in the recent surge of Covid-19 cases in China as the health system is completely overburdened.

Meanwhile, apart from China, surge in Covid-19 cases were also reported from Japan, South Korea, Brazil and the US.
