জেলাশাসকের তবলার বোলে প্রাণবন্ত আম্রপল্লব

৮ অক্টোবর : সঙ্গীত এমনই এক বিষয় যা মানুষকে সম্মোহিত করে রাখতে পারে। যাঁরা পেশাগতভাবে সঙ্গীতের সঙ্গে জড়িত, তাদের দেখা যায়, প্রতিটি অনুষ্ঠানের আগে নিয়ম করে অনুশীলন করেন। কিন্তু যখন জীবনে অন্য এক কঠিন ও দায়িত্বপূর্ণ পেশার সঙ্গে যুক্ত থেকেও কেউ অভিজ্ঞ শিল্পীর মতো অনুষ্ঠান উপহার দেন এবং তাও দীর্ঘদিন ধরে কোনও অনুশীলন ছাড়াই, তখন মানতেই হবে যে, এই প্রতিভা জন্মসূত্রে পাওয়া। এমনই এক শিল্পীর বিরল পারফরম্যান্সের সাক্ষী হয়ে থাকলেন শিলচরের ইলোরা হেরিটেজে এক সঙ্গীতময় সন্ধ্যায় আসা দর্শকশ্রোতা।

অনবদ্য পারফরম্যান্সে দর্শক-শ্রোতাকে মোহিত করে দিয়েছেন যে শিল্পী, তিনি আর কেউ নন, কাছাড়ের জেলাশাসক ডাঃ এস লক্ষণন। জেলার সর্বময় কর্তা হিসেবে তাঁর জীবনও নানা প্রতিকূল সমস্যার মধ্য দিয়ে এগিয়ে গিয়েছে। তাসত্ত্বেও জেলাশাসক সংস্কৃতি জগতটাকে রেখেছেন অন্তরের খুব কাছাকাছি। মৃদঙ্গ বাজনা তাঁর খুব পছন্দের। ছোটবেলায় মৃদঙ্গ বাজনায় তাঁর প্রশিক্ষণও রয়েছে। কিন্ত বর্তমানে পেশাগত দিক দিয়ে তিনি একজন উচ্চপদস্থ সরকারি আধিকারিক, আর যে কারণে গত ৭ বছর ধরে তিনি একেবারেই সময় দিতে পারেননি মৃদঙ্গ বাজনায়। আসলে কারোর প্রতিভা থাকলে তা কখনওই সুপ্ত থাকে না। শিলচরের সামাজিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক সংস্থা আম্রপল্লব-এর সদস্যরা যখন জেলাশাসকের এই প্রতিভার কথা জানতে পারলেন, তখনই তাঁকে অনুরোধ করলেন তাদের অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত থেকে মৃদঙ্গ বাজাতে।

জেলাশাসক ডাঃ লক্ষণনের স্পষ্ট স্বীকারোক্তি, গত ৭ বছরের মধ্যে তাঁর কেরলের বাড়িতে থাকা মৃদঙ্গম তিনি ছুয়েও দেখতে পারেননি। আর যেহেতু এখানে মৃদঙ্গম ঠিকভাবে জোগাড় হয়নি, তাই তিনি তবলা দিয়েই কাজ চালিয়ে নেন। জেলাশাসক এ দিন জানান, মৃদঙ্গম মূলত একটি দক্ষিণ ভারতীয় বাদ্যযন্ত্র, তবে তবলা হল উত্তর ভারতীয়। তাই বাজনা শুরু করার আগে তিনি বলেন, উত্তর ভারতীয় বাদ্যযন্ত্রে তিনি দক্ষিণ ভারতীয় কায়দায় বাজাবেন।

সত্যিই, এ দিন খুব সুন্দর বাজিয়েছেন জেলাশাসক। আম্রপল্লব-এর সভাপতি অজয় রায়ের হারমোনিয়ম সহযোগিতায় এ দিন ‘বিলম্বিত’ এবং ‘দ্রুত’ দুটোই বাজিয়েছেন। তিনি যদিও মাত্র ৪ মিনিট বাজিয়েছেন, তাসত্ত্বেও অডিটরিয়ামে উপস্থিত প্রত্যেকে জেলাশাসকের বাজনার প্রশংসা করেছেন। সংস্কৃতি চর্চায় উর্বর শিলচর এমনই এক জেলাশাসককে এবার পেয়েছে, যিনি শিল্প ও সংস্কৃতি চর্চায় সমানভাবে এগিয়ে রয়েছেন। এখানে উল্লেখ করা যেতে পারে যে, ডাঃ এস লক্ষণন একজন চিকিৎসক তথা শিশু বিশেষজ্ঞ। এছাড়াও তিনি আইপিএস ও আইএএস অফিসার। বহুমুখী প্রতিভার এই ব্যক্তিত্ব একজন ভালো ব্যাডমিন্টন খেলোয়াড়ও।

জেলাশাসক ডাঃ লক্ষণনের এই পারফরম্যান্সের অতিরিক্ত এ দিন অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয় আম্রপল্লবের চেয়ারপার্সন স্বর্ণালী চৌধুরীর দেবী দুর্গা সাজে নৃত্য পরিবেশনার মধ্য দিয়ে। তারপরেই চন্ডীপাঠ করেন অর্জুন চৌধুরী এবং গান গেয়ে শোনান জুন চৌধুরী। এ দিন সন্ধ্যায় অন্য এক আকর্ষণ ছিল বরাকের বিশিষ্ট হৃদরোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ ডাঃ পিসি শর্মার একটি সংগীত পরিবেশনা। চিকিৎসকের ব্যস্ত পেশায় থেকেও তাঁর গানের এই চর্চা এ দিন উপস্থিত দর্শক-শ্রোতাকে বিস্মিত করেছে।

ওয়ে টু বরাক প্রতিনিধির সঙ্গে কথা বলতে গিয়ে আম্রপল্লব-এর সম্পাদক জয়দীপ চক্রবর্তী বলেন, তারা আগামীতেও এ ধরনের অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে সুপ্ত প্রতিভাকে সামনে নিয়ে আসার চেষ্টা করবেন। পরিচিত মুখের ভিড়ে সংস্কৃতি চর্চার পাশাপাশি এ ধরনের ব্যতিক্রমী একটি অনুষ্ঠান সত্যিই এক অন্য স্বাদ এনে দিয়েছে।

October 7: Music has got a mesmerizing effect. For practitioners of professional music, each and every programme is preceded by sweating spells of rehearsal. However, when a hardcore professional from other walk of life perform like a seasoned musician and that too without any rehearsal for a long time, it’s definitely a rare case of inborn talent. Such a display of talent with an artistic flavor was witnessed by those present in a cultural conglomeration at Hotel Ellora Heritage.

Well, it was none other than, Dr. S. Laksmanan, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar who captivated the housefull audience with his mesmerizing performance. Being the guardian of a district, life seems to be no less than a bed of thorns. Inspite of this, Dr. Lakhsmanan kept alive the cultural traits in his heart of hearts. He loves to play Mridangam. He trained himself in playing Mridangam in his youth. However, the nature of his job as a civil servant is so hectic that he was unable to play his dear Mridangam since the last seven years of his life. When members of the socio-cultural group ‘Amra Pallav” came to know of his exceptional talent, they requested him to perform in their programme held today (Sunday).

Dr. Laksmanan made a candid confession that he has not done rehearsal as his Mridangam was at his home in Kerala since the last 7 years. Moreover, as Mridangam was not available here, he preferred to play the table. He further said that Mridangam is a South Indian instrument whereas Tabla belongs to the north. So he said that he would be performing the South Indian style on a North Indian instrument.

It was an impressive performance where he played both the ‘Bilambit’ and ‘druta’ accompanied by Ajoy Roy, the President of ‘Amra Pallav’ in Tabla. Though he played for a brief spell of around 4 minutes, however, those present in the auditorium were all in praises of Dr. Laksmanan. The artist within him as if peeped out to say that culturally rich Silchar has got a Deputy Commissioner who is equally rich in art and culture. It needs mention here that S.Lakhsmanan is a general physician turned pediatrician turned IPS turned IAS. He is a multi faceted personality and a good badminton player as well.

Prior to the performance of Dr. Laksmanan, the programme began with a dance performance by Swarnali Choudhury, Chairperson of ‘Amra Pallav’ invoking Goddess Durga. This was followed by chanting of hymns from the ‘Chandi’ by Arjun Choudhury and songs by June Choudhury. Another surprise of the day was performance of songs by heart specialist Dr. P.C. Sharma. This was also another surprising performance which won the hearts of all.

Speaking to way2barak, Joydeep Chakraborty, Secretary of ‘Amra Pallav’ said that they will try to bring forth such hidden talents in the future also. In short, it was really a programme relished by all for it had a flavor of something different from the usual performances by known faces from the field of culture.
