Modi cabinet resolves to give each migrant 5 kg food grains free of cost for 2 months
May 20: The miserable plight of the migrant labourers during the ongoing nationwide lockdown augmented by the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic has become the most talked about tragedy of the recent times. Many migrant labourers have even set on foot for thousands of kilometres. In the attempt, many have even lost their lives. A mother dragging her sleeping kid on a suitcase on the streets was indeed heart rendering. This aspect has also caught the government on the wrong foot.
Finally, on Wednesday, the union government took a positive step which could mitigate the hardships of the migrant labourers to a great extent. Commenting on this issue, Home Minister, Amit Shah informed that in order to help the migrant labourers during this pandemic, the Modi cabinet has given its approval for allocation of food grains from the centre’s stock to approximately 8 crore migrants who got stranded in different parts of the country. Amit Shah further stated that each migrant will be given 5 kg of food grains free of cost for two months.
In order to help our migrants during this pandemic, Modi Cabinet has given its approval for allocation of food grains from central pool to approximately 8crore migrants/stranded @5 kg/person/month, free of cost for two months. I congratulate PM @narendramodi ji for this.

Though providing only food grains is not the holistic solution to mitigate the plight of the migrant labourers, but this step atleast will go a long way in providing food to the hungry lot.
