Mobile Planetarium Installed at Assam University on Alumni Initiative
প্রাক্তনীদের উদ্যোগে মোবাইল প্ল্যানেটারিয়াম আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১৫ জানুয়ারি : বিজ্ঞান জনপ্রিয়করণ ও শিক্ষামূলক কার্যক্রমে এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সংযোজন হিসেবে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে স্থাপিত হল ‘মোবাইল প্ল্যানেটারিয়াম’। আসাম ইউনিভার্সিটি অ্যালুমনি অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের উদ্যোগে এই ‘তারামণ্ডল’ মোবাইল প্ল্যানেটারিয়ামটি স্থাপন করা হয়েছে। ন্যাশনাল কাউন্সিল অব সায়েন্স মিউজিয়ামসের তৈরি এই পরিকাঠামোর আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করা হবে আগামী ২১ জানুয়ারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ৩৩তম প্রতিষ্ঠা দিবসে।

প্রসঙ্গত, এই ‘তারামণ্ডল’ মোবাইল প্ল্যানেটারিয়ামটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের নতুন জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান আউটরিচ কর্মসূচির কেন্দ্রবিন্দু হিসেবে কাজ করবে। ইনফ্ল্যাটেবল ডোম কাঠামোর এই প্ল্যানেটারিয়ামে কৃত্রিম রাতের আকাশের বাস্তবসম্মত উপস্থাপনার মাধ্যমে শিক্ষার্থী ও সাধারণ মানুষের কাছে জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানের ধারণা সহজ ও আকর্ষণীয়ভাবে তুলে ধরা হবে।

এই উদ্যোগকে স্বাগত জানিয়ে উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ বলেছেন, প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থীদের এই অবদান আগামী প্রজন্মের প্রতি তাঁদের দৃঢ় অঙ্গীকারেরই প্রতিফলন। এর মাধ্যমে বিজ্ঞানকে জনপ্রিয় করার পদ্ধতিতে আমূল পরিবর্তন আসবে এবং দেশের প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলে বসবাসকারী শিক্ষার্থীরাও মহাবিশ্বের বিস্ময় সম্পর্কে জানার সুযোগ পাবে।২৬ ফুট বাই ২৬ ফুট জায়গায় স্থাপনযোগ্য এই পোর্টেবল ডোমে বিশেষায়িত অভ্যন্তরীণ প্রজেক্টরের সাহায্যে নক্ষত্রলোকের জীবন্ত চিত্রায়ণ সম্ভব। সহজে স্থাপন ও বহনযোগ্য হওয়ায় বারাক উপত্যকা সহ আশপাশের স্কুল ও বিভিন্ন জনপদে এই মোবাইল প্ল্যানেটারিয়াম ব্যবহার করা যাবে।

আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় স্টুডেন্টস ইউনিয়ন ও স্পোর্টস বোর্ডের কার্যালয় ভবনের ছাদে মোবাইল প্ল্যানেটারিয়ামটি স্থাপন করা হয়। স্থাপনের সময় উপাচার্যের সঙ্গে ছিলেন আইকিউএসি-র ডিরেক্টর অধ্যাপক পীযূষ পাণ্ডে, আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় মিডিয়া সেলের চেয়ারম্যান অধ্যাপক আলফারিদ হুসেন, অ্যালুমনি অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের ভাইস-চেয়ারম্যান অধ্যাপক মনোজ কুমার পাল, কনভেনর ড. অর্ণব পাল, সদস্য অধ্যাপিকা পারমিতা দাস, ড. শুভাশিস চৌধুরী ও ড. সুমনা চক্রবর্তী, স্টুডেন্টস ইউনিয়নের সাধারণ সম্পাদক কৌশিক দাসগুপ্ত, গবেষক সন্দীপ নাথ, অ্যালামনাই অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সদস্য তারা শঙ্কর গোস্বামী এবং মিডিয়া সেলের সদস্য কুতুবউদ্দিন আনসারি।

Way2barak, January 15 : In a significant boost to science popularisation and educational outreach, a Mobile Planetarium has been installed at Assam University, Silchar. The initiative has been taken by the Assam University Alumni Association, which facilitated the installation of the inflatable “Taromondal” mobile planetarium on the university campus.

Developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), the facility will be formally inaugurated on January 21, coinciding with the 33rd Foundation Day of Assam University. The ‘Taromondal’ mobile planetarium is expected to serve as the focal point of the university’s new astronomy outreach programme. Housed within an inflatable dome, the planetarium offers a realistic simulation of the night sky, making concepts of astronomy accessible and engaging for students as well as the general public.

Welcoming the initiative, Vice-Chancellor Professor Rajive Mohan Pant said that the contribution by the alumni reflects their strong commitment to future generations. He noted that the mobile planetarium would bring a transformative change in the way science is popularised and would help students from remote regions of the country explore and understand the wonders of the universe.

The portable dome, which can be installed in an area measuring 26 feet by 26 feet, uses a specialised internal projection system to create vivid and immersive visuals of celestial bodies. Its easy-to-install and transportable design will allow the planetarium to be taken to schools and various localities across the Barak Valley and neighbouring regions.

The mobile planetarium has been set up on the rooftop of the Assam University Students’ Union and Sports Board office building. Present during the installation were Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajiv Mohan Pant; Director of IQAC Prof. Piyush Pandey; Chairman of the Assam University Media Cell Prof. Alfarid Hussen; Alumni Association Vice-Chairman Prof. Manoj Kumar Pal; Convener Dr. Arnab Pal; members Prof. Parmita Das, Dr. Shubhashis Choudhury and Dr. Sumana Chakraborty; Students’ Union General Secretary Kaushik Dasgupta; researcher Sandip Nath; Alumni Association member Tara Shankar Goswami; and Media Cell member Kutubuddin Ansari.
