July 8: North Karimganj MLA, Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha lodged an FIR against AIUDF supremo, Badaruddin Ajmal on 8 July for his alleged statement that the former “eats Beef”. Kamalakhya filed the complaint at Karimganj Police Station.
In the said FIR, MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha alleged that on 7 July, 2022, AIUDF Supremo as well as Member of Parliament Badaruddin Ajmal stated that “I eat beef,” which was shown in various news channels. He wrote, “The statement was in Assamese language which can easily be interpreted by any person and the meaning is very simple that I eat beef. I am receiving uncountable phone calls from public at large as well as media persons which has humiliated me much and it also harmed my reputation and image.”
“The statement or hate speech he made is hideous, awful and defamatory. Apart from politics I am by faith Hindu and such statement not only wounded me personally but also the entire Hindu community. Various people making various comments on social media and with deliberate and malicious intentions of outraging the religious feelings, the accused insulted me and my religion and is likely to incite a communal riot for his personal gain,” wrote the MLA of North Karimganj in his FIR.
Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha urged upon the police in his FIR, “To register the FIR and book the accused U/S 153-Al 500/505/ 295-A IPC as well as other appropriate sections of law.”
