The Commerce department was set up in the year 2007 and was simultaneously affiliated by Assam University, Silchar. However, since then, the department is functioning in a venture mode. Three teachers are also associated with the Commerce stream of the college almost since the inception of this department. Though the college has applied for provincialisation long ago, but the issue is still pending with the Govt of Assam.

MLA Silchar said that the minister assured to look positively into the matter. MLA Chakraborty was accompanied by two teachers of the Commerce stream of Radhamadhab College, Dr Asish Taru Roy and Arup Paul. Principal of Radhamadhab College, Dr Debasish Roy thanked the local MLA for taking such an initiative to get the commerce section of the college provincialised.

It needs mention here that earlier in November 2021, Silchar MP, Dr Rajdeep Roy also met State Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu and brought to the attention the issue of provincialisation of Commerce Department of Radhamadhab College, Silchar. Taking to his twitter handle, MP Silchar wrote, “Dr Pegu is a scholarly man with a vision and we have a lot of expectation from him.”
