Miyan Museum: Post polls, Sherman Ali will be in jail, said Himanta Biswa
Himanta also criticises Kamalakhya for demanding Bengali relics at Sankardev Kalakeshtra
Oct. 31: Taking a sharp dig at Congress MLA Sherman Ali for his ‘Miyan Museum’ comment, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after the forthcoming assembly election, he will ensure that the former is put behind the bars. Sarma was addressing the media on Saturday at Janata Bhavan in Guwahati.
Sherman Ali will have to face the music for his ‘Miyan Museum’ comment in connection with Sankardev Kalakeshtra, said the minister. “Once the BJP government comes back to power, we will put him behind the bars for good. That someone will say that a ‘lungi’ will be placed at Sankardev Kalakeshtra is not at all acceptable to us. Unless he publicly apologize, he will land in jail,” said Himanta Biswa.

In the letter to the Director of Museums, written on October 18, Ali stated, “I would like to inform you that one Museum reflecting the culture and heritage of the people living in Char-Chaporis of Assam in the premises of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati was recommended by DRSC on Education, 2020-21, in its 47th Report of Art and Culture (Grant No 27). I would, therefore, like to request you kindly to expedite the process of establishment of the same.”
Himanta Biswa Sarma also took a dig at Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha for setting up collections related to Bengali culture at Sankardev Kalakeshtra. He said, “Will I demand to place a photo of Kamakhya at Sankardev Kalakeshtra? Sankardev Kalakeshtra shall house only artifacts related to Mahapurush Sankardev. Kamalakhya’s words does not represent the voice of the Bengali community. I can never imagine that Congress can speak such insensitive words.”
