Minor gangraped on her way home from tuition in Nagaon

way2barak, August 23: In a horrific incident, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men in Dhing area of Nagaon district of Assam on Thursday.

The minor, a class 10 student, was found in a semi-conscious state lying near a pond with her cycle besides her. Some local residents spotted the girl was immediately reported the police. The minor was rescued and was rushed to Dhing FRU for medical assistance. The girl’s condition is said to be not well.

As per the local reports, the incident took place when the minor was returning home from her tuition in the evening. She was lying on the road without any clothing for around an hour before being rescued.

The town is marred by huge protests on Friday by women and local residents demanding justice and arrest of all the culprits involved in the horrendous crime. Thousand of women have blocked roads seeking the government to be proactive and swift action from the police.

Meanwhile, a bandh has been called in the region on Friday by student unions, including, AASU and other civil society organisations.

According to the local residents who rescued her, the minor said that she was gangraped by three men. They have demanded the apprehension of the culprits within the 12 hours.

The police have detained two persons on the basis of suspicion.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked the state DGP to move to Dhing and have assured immediate action.

“The horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor, is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience. We will NOT SPARE anyone & BRING the perpetrators to JUSTICE. I’ve directed @DGPAssamPolice to visit the site and ensure swift action against such monsters,’ he said in a post on X.
