Cachar observes International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

way2barak, June 27::– In a significant step towards fostering a drug-free society, the Cachar District Administration, under the guidance of the District Commissioner, Shri Mridul Yadav IAS,observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) at the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), Sonai Road, here on thursday.

The event witnessed the active participation of 65 individuals, aiming to raise awareness and rekindle hope among those battling addiction.

Gracing the occasion were Assistant Commissioner cum District Social Welfare Officer Smt. Anjali Kumari,ACS, officials from the police department, dedicated staff of the District Social Welfare Office, and guest facilitators from the Art of Living Foundation ,Shri Nilendu Deb and Smt. Reshmi Purkayastha. Their collective presence underscored a shared commitment to combating the menace of substance abuse in the district.

Speakers addressed the urgent need for community-driven solutions to the challenges posed by drug addiction and illegal trafficking. The event was marked by deeply motivating sessions led by the Art of Living instructors, who emphasized the importance of stress-free living and inner resilience. Their engaging talks on self-motivation were tailored to help inmates rediscover purpose and embrace a drug-free life. A series of interactive games not only entertained but served as therapeutic tools, creating a vibrant and hopeful environment for the participants.

Adding a holistic dimension to the program, a brief session on yoga asanas was conducted, promoting both physical wellness and mental peace among the inmates. These mindful practices were received with enthusiasm, resonating deeply with the attendees.

Inmates of the rehabilitation centre expressed heartfelt gratitude for the initiative, stating that the day’s programme rejuvenated their spirits and instilled a fresh sense of direction. They voiced a strong desire for similar activities to be conducted regularly, recognizing their powerful role in supporting long-term recovery.

The event concluded on a positive and determined note, reinforcing the district’s dedication to a Nasha Mukt Cachar through sustained awareness, compassion, and community engagement.
