Member, ASCPCR holds meet with civil, police administrations on Kajidahar incident
August 13: Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) member Ajay Kumar Dutta arrived at Silchar on Thursday. Immediately on his arrival, Dutta paid a visit to Kajidahar area of Sonai, where a five-month-old baby was abducted and brutally murdered. He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police, Bhanwar Lal Meena and Additional Superintendent of Police. Dutta asked the police officials to ensure that stringent punishment is meted out to the arrested culprits who were involved in the heinous crime.
Dutta met the bereaved family members and expressed his sincerest condolences. The ASCPCR member while discussing in details about the ghastly incident with DIG (Southern Range), Dilip Kumar Dey, Superintendent of Police, Meena and Additional SP, said such heinous crimes do not recur in the future.
Later, Dutta met Additional Deputy Commissioner Lalita Rangpipi, Social Welfare Officer, Shaswati Shome and Protocol Officer cum CDPO, Mrinal Kanti Saikia at the Circuit House and directed them to keep a close watch on child related issues like child labour, child trafficking, child marriage and sexual abuse and to take firm steps to curb these crimes. Dutta also underscored the need for ensuring rights of children vis-a-vis education and security related aspects.
