Massive Congress protest over price rise: Rahul, Priyanka detained

Aug. 5: Amid the party’s nationwide protest against the Centre on issues of inflation, unemployment and GST on food items, several Congress MPs, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi as well as Shashi Tharoor, were detained on Friday. Congress party leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and MP Mallikarjun Kharge, Shashi Tharoor among others on Friday chose to sport black-coloured outfits to mark their protest.

Rahul Gandhi on Friday while launching an attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said that even “Hitler used to win elections” and alleged that all the institutions in the country are being controlled by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). “India is witnessing the death of democracy,” he said in a press conference. “What India has built brick by brick, starting almost a century ago, is being destroyed in front of your eyes. Anybody who stands against this idea of onset of dictatorship is viciously attacked, jailed, arrested and beaten up.”
