A Proposal to the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar for pumping out of water to avoid major epidemic break out

June 29: As we are all aware that the stagnant water has started smelling in many areas including Ramnagar, Chirukandi, Ashram road… and this has been stagnant since last 5 days.

We also know that the sluice gates are not able to release sufficient water due to the size and extra load of water and also as the river water level has been decreasing very slowly.

The only solution is to start pumping out these water involving 100 plus pumps instead of waiting for another 5/6 days by when this water and surrounding could turn toxic.

All tea gardens have 40/ 50 Hp diesel pumps with suction and delivery (mounted on trolley ) and these should be brought in immediately and operated under Assam Rifles, Army and BSF engineers. They are expert in such pumping of waters. Even they would be having some stock of such pumps.

Request you to please look into this aspect. If you need, I can provide the names of Tea Estates where such pumps are available.

We cannot afford an epidemic at this stage when the resistance level of the population is probably at it’s lowest. Please do something and not wait for natural drainage of water. This problem is man made and so the solution should also be provided by us.

(Copy of the proposal was also marked to Dr Rajdeep Roy, MP, Silchar; Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA, Silchar; Sshok Singhal, Guardian Minister, Cachar and Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam.)
