Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh facing CBI prove resigns
April 5: In a significant development, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh resigned on Monday citing “moral grounds”. Deshmukh’s resignation comes after the Bombay high court ordered a CBI probe following a plea by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
Param Bir Singh, who was recently replaced as Mumbai Police chief, has alleged in a petition that the Home Minister Deshmukh targeted him because he had complained to Uddhav Thackeray stating multiple allegations against the minister, which included extortion and illegal transfers. The High Court on Monday asked the CBI to investigate the allegations within 15 days.
