Lok Kalyan Mela 2025 in Silchar brings governance closer to citizens

way2barak September 20: The Lok Kalyan Mela 2025, organised by the Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in collaboration with Shrishti Waste Management, transformed Gandhi Bhawan near Gandhi Bagh Park into a vibrant hub of citizen government connect on Thursday. The fair brought together a wide array of government welfare schemes including PMAY (Urban), SBM (Urban), NULM, PMSVANidhi, PM Surya Ghar, FSSAI, Health, DICC, LDM office and the PM Awas Mela Shehri under Angikar 2025, creating a single-window awareness platform for citizens and beneficiaries.
Delivering her welcome address ,SMC Commissioner Srishti Singh underlined the purpose of the mela as a convergence initiative to ensure optimum benefits of government schemes reach the people.
“The Lok Kalyan Mela is not just an exhibition of welfare measures but a people-centric initiative to strengthen awareness, empower beneficiaries and build confidence that the government stands by every citizen,” she said. She also highlighted SMC’s collaboration with Shrishti Waste Management in promoting cleanliness and sustainable waste solutions, adding that “a cleaner Silchar is the shared responsibility of all, and through awareness and community involvement we can achieve it.”
While speaking at the event , Manjul Dev, Chairman, Silchar Development Authority, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, reaffirmed the government’s commitment under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to ensure that the benefits of flagship schemes reach the last person in society. He said, “This mela reflects our pledge to leave no one behind. Every welfare scheme from housing to livelihood support, from sanitation to health is designed to uplift people and create inclusive growth. The success stories of beneficiaries we heard today prove that these initiatives are not promises on paper, but real interventions changing lives on the ground.”
The mela was further enriched by testimonies of beneficiaries who shared how flagship schemes had positively impacted their families. To drive home the importance of cleanliness and sustainability, Shrishti Waste Management presented a live demonstration of the innovative “Kachra Kumar” model, showcasing practical ways of waste segregation and reducing plastic dependency. A Swachhata drama performed by ONGC-sponsored Nejati Sporting Club kept the audience engaged while spreading messages of hygiene, sanitation and civic responsibility.
The programme culminated in a collective pledge for a clean and green Silchar, echoing the spirit of sustainable living and participatory governance. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the City Project Manager, ASULMS, Silchar Municipal Corporation, marking the mela as a significant step in bridging governance with grassroots citizens.
