Rain plays spoilsport during Prag Cine Awards 2022 at Silchar DSA

March 26: Amid dazzling lights and hi-tech digital display accompanied by the state-of-the art stage, Prag Cine Awards 2022 kick started on Saturday evening at Silchar DSA. The programme was in the open field of DSA where large number of spectators along with who’s who gathered there to witness 1st of its kind award ceremony in Silchar. Minister of Cultural Affairs, Govt of Assam, Bimal Borah and his cabinet colleague Parimal Suklabaidya, SP Cachar Ramandeep Kaur were also present there and addressed the gathering.

The Prag Cine Awards 2022 started with a traditional “Dhamail” dance form performed by the local artists. Gradually started the award ceremony as crowd started to gather. Apart from the distribution of awards, a dazzling dance performance using all artistic and technological trajections was performed, which indeed seemed to be a feast for the eyes. Dimpu of the famous “Dimpu’s blog” a popular name in social media also entertained the crowd with his “Hi dosto” salutation.

Till then, the big names who came to attend the show were yet to showcase their performances. At around 7.40, suddenly cold breeze started to blow. Anticipation of heavy showers made the organisers and the viewers look pale. Then started a dance show at around 7.50 PM.

Within 5 minutes of the performance, suddenly heavy showers started to fall. As the programme was organised in the open field spectators as well as performers started to run hither and thither in search of shelter. But the showers came with such a might that almost everybody including the artists and the viewers all were soaked in rain.

Many took shelter in the stadium, where too people were not safe from the heavy shower. Even minister Parimal Suklabaidya was seen to run along with the public to seek shelter in the general gallery of DSA. Very soon, the decoration in the stage started to break and fall in the heavy storm. Water soon started to accumulate in the field. People became scattered. During the storm, many viewers took shelter inside the makeshift food stall in the ground. But suddenly the make shift stall also broke. However, no reports of injury came in till the filing of this report.

The audience could not thus witness the performances of Zubeen Garg, Rakhi Sawant, Tollywood stars Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta, Bhojpuri star Debosmita Banerjee and many others. Rain thus played a spoilsport and the Prag Cine Awards 2022 ended mid-way. Silchar missed the opportunity of viewing its maiden opportunity of hi-tech cine awards. Some viewers who purchased the tickets expressed deep resentment for not being able to view the star performers. However, the hard work put in by the organisers in designing such an event ofcourse needs to be appreciated.
