Leo Vision organises ‘Meet the GS Aritra Dhar’, distribute prizes to puja committees

December 1: Leo Club of Silchar Vision, the youth wing of Lions Club of Silchar Vision organised a unique programme entitled “Meet the GS, Leo Aritra Dhar, General Secretary, Assam University Students’ Union, 2019-2020” on Saturday evening at the auditorium of Madhyasahar Sangskritik Sangstha, Silchar. The programme was infact designed into parts, one was Meet the GS and the other was to give awards to Puja Committees who won the title of “Onno Puja” which was organised by Leo Club of Silchar Vision during Durga Puja, 2019.

It was a well concerted effort put in by the Leos while organising the programme. All invitees were given a mark with sandalwood paste on the forehead. The programme began with Lion Dr. Shyamali Kar Bhowal, President, Lions Club of Silchar Vision on the dias. She was accompanied by Lion Sankar Prasad Chakraborty- Zone Chairman, Zone-8, Lions Club International District 322G. Apart from them, also present on the dias was Leo Abhishek Dey, Zone Chairman- Zone 1- Leo District 322G, Sangbritee Purkayastha- Treasurer, Leo Club of Silchar Vision.

In her welcome address, Lion Dr. Shyamali Kar upholded the success story of Leo Club of Silchar Vision since its very inception a few years back. She heaped lavish praises upon the enthusiastic zeal of the young Leo brigade and it is this extra energy which they put up has made them distinct even in a crowd. She also gave a brief introduction of Aritra Dhar in whose honour the day’s programme was organised. Saying so, Artira Dhar was called upon the dias. Aritra’s success story as elected General Secretary (GS) of Assam University Students’ Union was narrated in tome mixed with immense pride as he is also an active member of Leo Club of Silchar Vision.

Aritra was welcomed with a book on Swami Vivekananda and a mango sapling. In his speech, Aritra thanked his Club Leo Vision for supporting him whole-heartedly during the election in Assam University. He promised to work for the benefit of the student community keeping intact in mind the backdrop in which the university came into existence.

During the second part of the programme, those who adjudged various puja committees during Durga Puja 2019 were called upon and felicitated with books on Swami Vivekananda. Tamal Kanti Banik, Dr. Ashoke Dutta Gupta, Sudarshan Gupta, Shyamali Kar Bhowal, Dr. Apratim Nag and Paromita Paul along with others acted as judges for the “Onno Puja” awards.

Infact, this was an unique idea conceptualised by Leo Club of Silchar Vision. Puja Committees were adjudged in the category of “Onno Puja” on the basis of the social service activities undertaken by them. Prizes were given to Shyama Prasad Road Durga Puja Committee, DC Office Durga Puja Committee and Ambikapur Purba Para Durga Puja Committee.

The entire programme was woven in a single thread by Leo Tamal Chakraborty, President of Leo Club of Silchar Vision. The way Tamal compered the programme was indeed praiseworthy.
