Legal action may be taken if self-assessment forms are not submitted, warns MLA Dipayan Chakraborty

way2barak, Sept.8: The Municipal tax in Silchar is going to increase manifold following the filling up of ‘self-assessment’ or re-assessment’ by the citizens. This was alleged by a number of organisations who have asked the inhabitants of the town not to fill-up the self- assessment forms. Responding to this, MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty on Wednesday stated, “Those who are instigating the people not to submit the self- assessment forms to SIlchar Municipality are doing illegal activity. Legal action may be initiated against such persons.”

While interacting with the media, MLA Chakraborty said, “Self-assessment’ or re-assessment’ is a government process. Trying to convince the people against this process is ofcourse illegal. Some sections of the populace is busy doing cheap politics on this issue. The election to Municipal Corporation of Silchar is due and so to confuse the people, wrong message is being conveyed by a few. The interests of the people of Silchar will definitely remain protected under the present BJP government.”

Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy said that nobody is enhancing taxes at this hour, but the people needs to fill up the self- assessment forms. He, however, was quick to add, “The amount of enhanced rate of tax is also a matter of concern for us. We will appeal soon to the government to consider and revise the rates.”
