Lawlessness at its height! Bike borne miscreants again snatches ₹3.90 lakh at Sonai Road

Oct. 30: Incidents of chain, money & mobile snatching has become a regular affair in Silchar. On July 2021, Rs. 2 lakh was snatched from an employee of Radhamadhab College at Sonai Road after he had withdrawn the amount from State Bank of India (SBI), New Silchar Branch. However, just after 3 months, a somewhat similar incident happened in Silchar on Saturday.

After withdrawal of Rs. 3.90 lakh by one Kutub Uddin Barbhuiya from the main branch of State Bank of India (SBI), Silchar on Saturday, he was on his way towards Sonai Road in his motorbike. Around 1 PM, he halted near a shop at Sonai Road. The moment he started to proceed towards a shop, two bike borne miscreants suddenly came from behind. One of them immediately snatched away a small hand bag containing the money from Kutub Uddin Barbhuiya and fled away instantly at a great speed.

At once, the victim, Kutub Uddin Barbhuiya lodged a complaint at Rangirkhari Police Town Outpost. Later on, describing the ordeal, Mr Barbhuiya said, “The incident of snatching happened within the twinkling of an eye. The snatchers were on a black Pulser motorbike. The bike borne miscreants wore helmet and so I could not see their face. I was supposed to make payment for my vehicle and so I went to SBI. Till now, I am not able to reconcile to the fact that I have been robbed in the broad day light.”

It needs mention here that the police has even failed to find out any clue as to the incident of money snatching from a staff of Radhamadhab College. Two similar incidents at Sonai Road within a gap of 3 months, yet the police are still clueless about the whereabouts of the culprits.

Local residents expressed deep anguish over such repeated incidents of robbery in Silchar. They demanded that strict vigil should be done by the police so that such anti-social elements could be nabbed at the earliest. “How do the miscreants know who is withdrawing money from the bank? This is definitely a mysterious issue. There is every possibility of some insider leaking such vital information to the miscreants or somebody keeping an eye on the customers inside the bank,” remarked a retired school teacher. Another businessman of Central Road said, “Silchar is now a heaven for anti-socials. What is the law enforcing authorities doing?
