Largest Recruitment Drive: Appointment letters given to 29,701 teachers in Assam

Feb. 5: In what seems to be the largest recruitment drive ever, 29701 appointment letters were distributed to teachers & non-teaching staff on Friday at a function at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati. The appointment letters were handed over by Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal in presence of State Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

ImageOf the 29,701 appointments, 16,484 are teachers and non-teaching staffs in schools, junior colleges and colleges whose services have been provincialised. The remaining 13,217 (TET qualified) are fresh appointments. Expressing his reaction, Chief Minister Sonowal tweeted, “We deliver on our promises. Provincialisation of 4,260 schools and appointment of 29,701 teachers, the biggest recruitment drive by our Govt, reiterates our commitment to the people. I believe these new appointees will carry forward the vision of the noble profession.”

Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “A matter of great pride as we handed over 29701 appointment letters to teachers & non-teaching staff today, first ever such drive in Assam. Congratulations to all deserving teachers & staff. We count on your contribution. Provincialisation of services of 9895 elementary, 4996 secondary, 1593 higher education teachers will provide great impetus to our education delivery and so will the filling up of 13217 regular vacancies under elementary / secondary Dept & SSA. Congratulations.”

In his speech, the Education Minister further stated the BJP-led government in Assam has appointed 71,765 teachers during its first tenure. BJP came to power in the northeastern state in 2016.
