Tarun Gogoi’s condition turns extremely critical

Nov. 23: The health condition of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has now been reported to be extremely critical. The 86-year-old veteran Congress leader is on full ventilator support. State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with his wife and two children visited the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday morning to enquire about the health of his former mentor.

Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday rushed back to Guwahati from Dibrugarh after cancelling his programmes and went straightway to GMCH. Taking to his twitter handle, Sarbananda Sonowal wrote, “Flying back to Guwahati from Dibrugarh after cancelling my programmes midway to be on the side of respected Tarun Gogoi da & his family as the former CM’s health deteriorates. He has always been a father figure to me. I join millions in praying for his recovery.”

The three-time CM has been on life-support during the past two days following multi-organ failure on 21 November. Commenting on the health status of Tarun Gogoi, the health minister said, “There is nothing much the doctors can do at this moment. We need a lot of prayers to save him.”

Meanwhile, the Tarun Gogoi’s daughter Chandrima Gogoi on Sunday arrived in GMCH from the US to meet her ailing father. Gogoi’s daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi also reached the hospital on Saturday. Gogoi’s son, Kaliabor Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other national leaders of the Congress have called him and took stock of the ex-CM’s health condition.
