Lady college teacher arrested for objectionable social media post & ‘unruly’ behaviour with police

May 6: Rupa Rani Bhuyan, an Associate Professor of English literature at Mangaldai College in Assam was arrested on Wednesday by Mangaldai Police. The lady college teacher was asked to appear at the Mangalgai PS’ women cell before Sub Inspector Twinkle Goswami for interrogation in connection with three cases registered at the police station against her. The cases registered against Bhuyan were regarding her recent controversial posts in a social media platform against noted Assamese litterateur Sayed Abdul Malik.

However, Rupa Rani Bhuyan instead of cooperating with the investigation officer Goswami, misbehaved with her and created an unruly atmosphere inside the police station. Ultimately, on the basis of an FIR of Sub Inspector Goswami, a case (no. 264 /2020 u/s 353 /294 & 506 IPC) was registered. Subsequently, Bhuyan was arrested and sent to judicial custody. Apart from it, 3 cases (No 225 /2020, 236 /2020 & 241 /2020) under the IT Act have reportedly been registered in the Police Station against Bhuyan for making objectionable and derogatory posts in Facebook.
