Kajir Ronghangpi Heritage Fair 2026 on March 7-10 at Kaziranga

way2barak, March 5: In a landmark initiative for Northeast India, the Kajir Ronghangpi Heritage Fair 2026 will be held during March 7-10 at Tribal Treats, Bogorijuri, Kaziranga in Assam, bringing together indigenous heritage, biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods and responsible tourism under an integrated platform.

The four-day fair is expected to attract over 5,000 visitors, including tourists, policymakers, conservationists, institutional buyers and entrepreneurs from across India.

According to a representative of the organisers, “The Kajir Ronghangpi Heritage Fair” is a collective effort to celebrate indigenous heritage while strengthening sustainable livelihoods and responsible tourism in the Kaziranga–Karbi Anglong Landscape. By bringing together communities, institutions and markets, we aim to create a platform where conservation, culture and commerce move forward together.”

The Fair is being organised by the Kajir Ronghangpi Heritage Fair Organising Committee, in collaboration with:

● District Administration representatives from the Kaziranga–Karbi Anglong landscape (Golaghat, Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts)

● Tourism and Forest Department officials

● Biodiversity Management Committees

● Community institutions and producer groups

● Leading conservation and research organisations

The initiative has received guidance and participation commitments from senior government and institutional representatives, reflecting its importance as a regional platform for heritage-focused sustainable development.

The Organising Committee comprises of representatives from community leadership, biodiversity governance institutions, conservation organisations and business facilitation partners working within the Kaziranga–Karbi Anglong Landscape.

A celebration of Karbi Heritage and indigenous identity

At its core, the fair celebrates the cultural identity and ecological knowledge of the Karbi and other indigenous communities of the region.

The Heritage Exhibition will feature:

● Native wild edibles and indigenous seed diversity

● Traditional Karbi rituals and art forms

● Live demonstrations of bamboo craft, back-strap weaving and natural dyeing

● Traditional jewellery-making and tea processing

● Indigenous games and language sessions

● A curated traditional food corner showcasing local cuisine

The event is rooted in the philosophy of “Wild, Weave & Harvest”, symbolising biodiversity, craft traditions and agricultural heritage.

Sustainable Livelihoods and Producer Empowerment

The Fair provides a structured marketplace for:

● Farmers and agroforestry producers

● Women-led Self Help Groups

● Forest-fringe communities

● Handloom and handicraft artisans

● Non-timber forest product (NTFP) collectors

● Community-based ecotourism enterprises

A dedicated B2B Business Platform will facilitate buyer–producer meetings, retailer engagement and value chain networking, strengthening marketing channels for indigenous and biodiversity-based products.

The goal is to integrate local producers into the broader ecotourism and responsible consumer markets while ensuring dignity and fair value.

Biodiversity, Climate and Responsible Tourism Dialogue

In addition to exhibitions and sales, the Fair will host thematic seminars and panel discussions on:

● Solid and liquid waste management in tourism landscapes

● Renewable energy adoption and low-carbon tourism

● Community-led biodiversity conservation

● Ecotourism beyond protected areas

● Youth entrepreneurship in rural and tourism enterprises

These discussions aim to position the Kaziranga–Karbi Anglong Landscape as a model of integrated biodiversity stewardship and sustainable tourism development.

High-level participation expected

Senior officials from concerned district administrations, forest and tourism departments, biodiversity conservation authorities, and conservation institutions are expected to attend the formal inauguration on March 7 at 3:00 PM.
