JOOKTO & Friends of Earth pays tribute to the Mahatma
October 2: The apostle of peace, Mahatma Gandhi was paid rich tribute by Jookto Foundation and Friends of the Earth on the occasion of his 150th Birth anniversary. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the members of JOOKTO & Friends of the Earth went together and paid homage in the bust of Gandhi at Gandhi Bagh Silchar. A pigeon was also released on this occasion.
Both the organizations then participated in the programme organized by Gandhi Peace foundation at Club Road, Silchar. Speaking during the occasion, Subimal Bhattacharjee, Director of JOOKTO highlighted the life and various other aspects related to Mahatma Gandhi. He spoke of the role played by Gandhi against apartheid in South Africa. He further said that, as he often visits South Africa, he could feel the deep respect which the people of South Africa nourish in their heart for the Mahatma.
Present during the occasion were Joydeep Chakraborty, Coordinator JOOKTO, Ward commissioner Jhalak Chakraborty, Assam Ranji Trophy player Pritam Chakraborty, Cultural activist Satyajit Bose Joy, Masoom Ahmed, Secretary of Friends of the Earth among others.
