Jam: Innumerable vehicles from Assam stranded between Sonapur & Malidor
Nov. 21: Thousand of vehicles got struck in the stretch between Sonapur and Malidor in East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya. Many passengers who started from Silchar for Guwahati were also stranded in the jam for long hours since Saturday morning. Passenger bus, cars, trucks and other vehicles could be seen waiting for more than 10 to 12 hours.
One such passenger, Mashurul Bari who too got stranded in the jam said, “The road is blocked due to excessive traffic jam since last 10 to 12 hours, yet none from Meghalaya Traffic Police could be seen on the spot. I am here since so long hours without any food or water. My aged mother is there along with me. I don’t what will happen. I am really very tensed.” Mr. Bari also shared pictures of the jam on his Facebook Page and drew attention of the concerned authorities.
Another passenger who also got stranded in the same place said, “Requesting for necessary action to ease traffic jam at Sonapur-Malidahar stretch of NH 6. Lot of elderly people, patients and small children are stuck resulting in untold miseries.”
This is ofcourse not a new phenomenon. Off and on, such type of road jam occurs in this stretch between Sonapur and Malidor in East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, but none seems to come forward to ease the woes of the passengers.
