ITR filing date extended to 10 January

Dec. 30: In a significant development, the union government on Wednesday extended the date for filing income tax returns to 10 January from 31 December, 2020, for individual tax payers and the date for filing tax returns by the companies was extended to 15 February, 2021.

In a tweet, the Income Tax Department stated, “In view of the continued challenges faced by taxpayers in meeting statutory compliances due to outbreak of COVID-19, the government further extends the dates for various compliances.”

In a press release, the finance ministry informed that the date for filing of income tax returns for the assessment year 2020-21 for taxpayers (including their partners), who are required to get their accounts audited, has been extended to 15 February, 2021
